Job Summary

Responsible for maintaining building equipment and correcting malfunctions of that equipment for the 898/948/4255 Aurora Locations, 1100 North Aurora and 3500 Downers Grove Location. Takes direction from the Facilities Manager, assists in the development and execution of Building Maintenance Programs. Assists and manages outside Service Contractors as needed. Supports the Manufacturing, R&D, and Supply Chain Operations as required on technical issues. Provides Customer Service to Office Personnel as requested.

Essential Functions

Duties and Responsibilities


% of Time Spent

• Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.


• Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.


• Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.


• Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.


• Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.


• Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.



  • Perform Building equipment repairs such as, but not limited to, HVAC Systems, Plumbing Systems, Electrical / Lighting Systems, Furniture Systems, Warehouse Equipment, Boilers/Hot Water Systems, etc.
  • Relieves facilities manager of detail by performing routine investigations; gathering, compiling, and interpreting data; and preparing recommendations and reports.
  • Orders maintenance items from requisitions received from managers, supervisors, and group leaders; maintains purchasing records and stock of critical items. 
  • Travels to pick up repair parts and supplies from Supply stores and to service the various Illinois locations.
  • Provides outside contractor personnel with safety orientation to the facility, requirements of the hazard communication standard, and personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, etc.
  • Inspects and maintains Safety Systems for Buildings, including Emergency Exit signage and lighting, Fire Equipment, Fire Alarm and notification Systems, etc.
  • May conduct on-site investigations of critical maintenance problems.
  • Plan, organize and follow-up on projects in a thorough manner.
  • Provides Customer Service to all Employees with regards to requests for help with Building related functions
  • Responds to after hour emergencies as required
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager

  • Determine the urgency of an issue or problem, when immediate action is required or if scheduling repairs is more appropriate
  • Coordinate with internal customers for access/repair timing
  • Decide if outside expertise or resources are needed for a repair or project
  • Evaluate situations & breakdowns to determine root-cause and utilize your knowledge and network of resources to come up with solution options; access those options and make a decision

  • Experience in Building/Facilities Maintenance – preferably in a service-oriented office and manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in HVAC systems

Other Experience

Knowledge of the position

  • Food and Pharmaceutical Industry experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience in Industrial mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot/diagnose potential problems, hazards, and to propose viable/sustainable solutions

Skills of the position

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. SAP experience a plus

  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work with temperature changes (indoors/outdoors) frequently
  • Detail oriented and well organized
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with an ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
