Job Summary:

  • Glanbia Performance Nutrition (GPN) is a global leader in the development, manufacturing & marketing of sports and nutrition solutions.  The company is headquartered in Downers Grove, IL and markets products under its own brands and for many of the leading brands of sports and wellness products through the world. This exciting business continues to grow rapidly and is currently seeking a Food Process Engineer. This reports into the R&D team but sits in the plant and is focused on providing manufacturing process engineering to Operations. The primary responsibilities of this role are defining optimized process operations for new products (primarily powders) for scale up to the plant and optimizing process operations for products currently being manufactured for sale. GPN is a wholly owned subsidiary of Glanbia, a multi-national nutritionals, dairy and food products business headquartered in Ireland.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Job reports into R&D but position is located in Manufacturing Plant
  • Projects will be defined by Manufacturing.
    • Assure optimized blending and processing
    • Identify critical process steps to assure flawless manufacturing every time.
  • Understand and determine impact of ingredient interactions on process capabilities
  • Provide input for Continuous Improvement Team in manufacturing to maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs and changeovers.
  • Identify record and train standard operating procedures and best practices across R&D, Manufacturing and Quality.
  • Provide recommendations during incident investigations.
  • Evaluate and improve on current processes in use in manufacturing current products.
    • Develop innovative solutions to solve issues with ingredient handling, blending and packaging.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time.
  • Identify and source testing equipment required for evaluation and studies for blending powders.
  • Develop and teach courses to advance blending knowledge across the manufacturing & product development teams..
     
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Basic information of the position
  • Knowledge of the position
    • BS Food Process Engineering with minimum 3 years of experience in food production facility for Processing/Chemical Engineering Candidates with direct experience in blending, mixing and managing process of powders. MS Food Processing/Engineering Candidates preferred.
    • Understanding of particle size, density and other material property effects on processing powders.
    • Good understanding of potential ingredient interactions, impact of hydroscopic or reactive food ingredients.
    • Strong knowledge of processing equipment and technology.

    • Must be a self-starter and be able to independently self-direct.
    • Must have good analytical skills and should be detail-oriented
    • Good leadership skills
    • Excellent communication and written English skills.
    • Deal with ambiguity and make decisions when clear answers are not available.

    • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and manage projects to deadlines.
    • Ease of working with manufacturing personnel and equipment engineering
    • Comfortable communicating with all levels of management
