Senior Network & Security Engineer


An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Network & Security Engineer with Glanbia Business Services(GBS).  This is a full time position and will be based in our offices in Twin Falls, Idaho and will report to the Network Architect




The Senior Network & Security Engineer will form a vital part of the GBS Network & Technical Security Team of six and will report to the Network Architect. The network team support a global network spanning 134 global locations and with varying site-types, from production plants to warehouses to corporate offices.  There are 2 Dublin-based datacenters and 1 US-based datacenter at the core of the network, providing a highly resilient network environment. This level of resilience and redundancy is driven throughout the organisation's communications networks. The network must support transmission of business critical applications such as MES, LIMS, SAP, Office365, Teams, video-conferencing, collaboration tools, web and cloud services.

The team works closely with key vendors and managed-service partners for delivery of managed network and security services.  


Role Summary & Responsibilities

  • Vendor management within a managed-service environment is a key part of the role, working closely with managed network and security partners, ensuring they are delivering service to the agreed SLAs, verifyng reports from the partners, assessing Root Cause Analysis documents, ensuring their responses are relevant to the business units
  • Ensuring reporting of key SLAs and KPIs & driving the service providers to deliver to those metrics
  • Manage Cisco network devices (900+) located on various sites across Ireland, Europe, US & ASPAC
  • Manage enterprise firewall estate (50+) consisting of Checkpoint & Cisco ASA technology
  • Provide level 3 network support to Global Servicedesk on customer network issues relating to LAN, WLAN, WAN, VPN, Firewall filtering & web security/proxy service
  • Assist in global and local network deployment projects to ensure smooth delivery of network installations and to deliver best-in-class agreed network standards, verify hardware BOM proposals, technical point of contact on network projects, processing Change Requests
  • Deliver network & security solutions to the internal business units in response to their high-level business requirements, processing Change Requests within the agreed Change Management



  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise routing, switching and network security
  • Vendor management: Experience in a managed-service environment
  • Strong experience troubleshooting enterprise network issues & application of realistic solutions within the context of the business
  • Strong working knowledge of firewall design and network security protocols:  Firewall ACLs, NAT, IPSec site to site VPNs, SSL VPNs, encryption levels, hashing algorithms
  • Good knowledge of Cisco routing, switching & WLAN protocols: EIGRP, Spanning Tree, Etherchannel, QoS (DSCP, 802.1p), VLANs 802.1q, 802.11ac, 802.11n, 802.1x
  • Indepth knowledge of fibre-optic cabling, structured cabling systems, electrical power and best practices
  • Ability to document and illustrate network proposals and solutions in articulate manner
  • Ability to communicate ideas and solutions very well with all stakeholders & customers
  • Strong team-player & works on own initiative
