Job Overview:          

Reporting to the Advanced Analytical Senior Manager this position requires an experienced Food Scientist with in depth dairy product knowledge, analytical skills, technical skills, experience in protein characterisation, processing and project management.  This role will provide in-depth chemistry support and direction for ingredient development, applications and customer projects for Glanbia Ireland.  Working within the R&D department, but with key contacts into Operations and Quality, this role will provide scientific support for projects focussed on innovation, new product development, process development

The successful candidate will be based in Ballyragget or Teagasc, Moorepark and will be required to travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage projects end to end.
  • Develop analytical plans and or DOE for projects.
  • Generate technical reports.
  • Provide protein chemistry expertise related to GI protein ingredients.
  • Work within cross-functional teams across GI to support project delivery.
  • Leverage external providers to further develop GI research base.
  • Identify improvement opportunities for ingredients, products and processes.
  • Contribute to the design and set up of the R&D analytical labs.
  • Research and establish new analytical methods.
  • Liaise with R&D teams to capture data and advise how this data can be used for development or trouble shooting purposes.
  • Maintain awareness of advances in analytical research.
    Key Requirements
  • 4 + years analytical experience in the food / dairy industry.
  • Science based qualification – 3rd level Food Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry.
  • Writing technical reports to include recommendations for the business.
  • Good problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Dairy chemistry experience.
  • Application experience (liquid & powder) in clinical nutrition, UHT, IF, sports nutrition & dairy products.
  • Knowledge on food structure analyses.
  • Prior experience in analytical techniques such as Chromatographic techniques; Electrophoresis, Rheometry, Microscopy – light, fluorescent  or confocal scanning laser, Heat Stability, Hydration/solubility assessment techniques.
  • Prior experience in protein interactions with other food constituents.
  • Project Management.
