Role Summary

Reporting to the Program Manager, this position requires an experienced Industrial Process Scientist / Engineer with an in depth knowledge of fermentation, purification and separation, technologies at commercial scale

Good people and project management, and decision making skills, excellent scientific knowledge and experience in commercial scale operations is a requirement.

The Process Development Manager will define and optimise the overall process from feedstock intake to the production of the final products. The role will provide the Design Engineering team the relevant data to facilitate an industrial plant design, this will include a detailed process description and accurate mass balance data

Working as the Technical team lead and as part of the Project Management team the role will have responsibility to manage resources and deliver key project milestones within budget in the commercialisation of an industrial process.

The role will direct and work with key internal and external scientific and process experts and work with engineers, finance, project and program managers, communicate regular reports to the business in the delivery of the project.


Key Responsibilities

  • Management of the Pilot plant facilities and personnel in compliance with Glanbia Health & Safety Standards.
  • Deliver scale up of pilot process & fermentation to industrial scale.
  • Deliver accurate, relevant and interpretable process data to the Engineering Design team
  • Development/optimisation of a cost effective bio refining process
  • Provide in-depth technical direction and management of internal and external scientific and technical experts
  • Technical project management, project risk assessments in delivery of industrial process.
  • Exhibit aptitude for planning and delivering projects to completion and within budget.
  • Management of expectations of internal and external stakeholders,
  • Compilation of project updates and presentation of progress to the business on a regular basis.
  • Provide input into capex budgets and opex finances.
  • Scientific team lead but work within cross-functional teams across the project team to deliver project.
  • Proactively identify and deliver process optimisations opportunities.
  • Keep technically abreast of relevant developments in the field to identify new opportunities. 
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers  on development and implementation of analytical quality methodologies, specifications, final and in process testing and COAs
  • Work with Technical, Operations, commercial and QA teams to ensure seamless transfer of products to scale up and commercialisation.
    Science/Engineering based qualification in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Brewing, & Distillation.
    Total of  10  years relevant industrial in some or all of the following, fractionation or separation technologies, fermentation optimisation, chemical and biochemical  analytical technologies, industrial scale up, project management and scientific team lead of above activities, stakeholder
