Process Excellence personnel report to the PE manager and work with the aim of developing a specific centre of expertise in Operations & Supply Chain processes and technologies. A significant element of the role is to technically support manufacturing operations and processes working with local site PTT personnel. The role supports the integration of Commercial, R&D, Engineering and Operations systems for New Product Introductions and the GI Growth agenda.

This role will require a broad understanding of the manufacturing technologies, product characteristics and manufacturing equipment for the GI product portfolio. It will require someone to work closely with Innovation, Engineering, Quality and Operations personnel to create a central “body of process knowledge” which will be available to all across the group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in designated production processes and equipment, creating a centre of Excellence through the existing Product Technology Platforms.
  • Develop the Technology Platforms to run optimisation studies (embedding the DMAIC approach) and use the output of these studies to define the best systems and ways of working for all sites in GI.
  • Support the on-going PTT personnel efforts to improve plant efficiencies and reduce process variation on sites, applying 6 sigma tools and facilitate the sharing of process learning across GI.
  • Support PTT in the application of the right technologies for new product introductions, product reformulations and line extension of existing products.
  • Perform Data Analysis to identify and implement process opportunities as required in areas ranging across product quality, throughput, losses, composition and product conversion.
  • Liaise with and support the local GPS specialists to roll out the GI GPS programme – especially in support of white, yellow and green belt candidates.
  • Support and strengthen the site safety culture.
  • Support implementation of site cleanliness and hygiene standards.

Key Requirements:

  • Have a third level qualification in Food Science/ Engineering/Food Technology OR a minimum of 10 years’ experience in dairy processing environment.
  • Have a formal qualification in six sigma or a track record of working in the discipline
  • Demonstrate a history of developing a focussed project team to deliver specific benefits.
  • Demonstrate proven experience in delivering significant technical projects within the food industry.
  • Demonstrate capability in data analytics
  • Ability to operate effectively and communicate clearly at all levels of the business
  • Have a holistic understanding to the business – integrating technical, operational and financial elements
  • Have a working knowledge of MES and an ability to extract data from the site systems

Finding a better way

This role is built on the premise of understanding the “as is” status of the manufacturing processes on each site and identifying opportunities for improved site performance. This will require the candidate to be able to work with site technical teams in a progressive way to distil significant projects from the site’s historical performance data.

Winning together

The role will require the candidate to engage with a site’s resources to ensure effective adoption of any improvements. Therefore the candidate will need to demonstrate their ability to build relationships, impact and influence others and communicate effectively for team formation.

Performance matters

The person will need to demonstrate an ability to manage their time and site resources in an efficient manner to deliver site performance improvements year on year. The role will require management of multiple projects on separate simultaneously and efficiently.

Showing Respect

The role is looking to help people develop their skills on all of the sites. The candidate will need to demonstrate an ability to work with others, to share knowledge and to coach people in focussed data analytical skills as the team progress individual improvement projects.
