An opportunity has arisen within R&D at based in our Innovation centre in Ballyragget for an R&D Manager, Cheese Products.  Reporting to the Head of NPD, this role will be responsible for B2B and B2C cheese product development. The successful candidate will manage a team of 4 technologists have a strong day to day relationship with the GI Commercial, Operations and Quality teams. The role will manage cheese NPD, provide technical support and be responsible for the development of technical capability in the area of cheese ingredient solutions for supply into retail, foodservice and manufacturing sectors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To manage cheese new product development programme within GI – particularly in the areas of consumer launches, functional variants and ingredient optimisation.
  • To work with the R&D, Process Technology, Product Management and Commercial teams to identify, develop and validate cheese product and cheese solution opportunities for GI.
  • To work with internal cross functional teams as part of supplier relationship management to key customers, and to act as customers champion across technical platforms & internal processes.
  • Provide technical input to cheese product strategy development.
  • To interface with customers and visit/understand markets on a technical level to identify key functional and nutritional product requirements, and to assess and manage development of recipes and specifications.
  • To work closely with operations teams at two large scale production facilities to successfully commercialise new products to market.
  • To develop and manage a team of technologists to underpin and enhance GI cheese offering and technical understanding.
  • To direct and control a research and development programme in combination with key third party institutions to further GI research base and understanding of cheese as a functional and nutritional ingredient.
  • To problem solve technical production, product application/quality, or consistency issues.


Key Requirements:

  • Science based qualification (preferably to post-graduate level ideally in area of cheese products).
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant technical and/or operational experience in a value-added dairy or related human nutrition industry.
  • Sound dairy chemistry understanding is required and extensive regulatory experience would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills particularly in technical arena for interaction at all levels
  • Good influencing skills
  • Good concise report writing; good numerical skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Pro-active, self-driven, and results-oriented; track record of delivery in project and programme management a must.
