This position will be responsible for formulating nutrient premixes based on customers’ requests, assuring compliance with customers’ applications, shelf life and stability requirements, as well as regulatory requirements.  Participation in ingredient and substitution evaluations and commercialization processes as required.  Manage or be assigned to complex projects, communicate internally and externally for technical troubleshooting, suggest recommendations for ingredients and premix formulation improvements, lead and/or support blend validation and homogeneity trials.  Support the R&D Laboratory (Samples, Innovation, Drum To Hopper blends), and work on R&D projects with prototype development as needed.  Become proficient with use of internal formulating and production software programs, after appropriate training. 




  • Develop premix formulas and support quotations based on customers’ requirements or Glanbia internal needs
  • Supervise junior formulators and R&D Technicians as needed and appropriate
  • Communicate with Customers, Account Managers, external technical teams and interdepartmental team members providing technical premix recommendations and problem solving
  • Work with Quality to ensure ingredient compliance to customer and regulatory specifications
  • Research, evaluate and approve various manufacturing processes, raw materials, and blends
  • Manage complex application projects, provide technical recommendations internally and externally, and follow through with technically sound resolution
  • Perform raw material commercialization and blend commercialization R&D processes
  • Participate and/or lead ingredient and/or blend stability, validation or homogeneity trials
  • Perform other technical and applications responsibilities as needed
  • Work closely with Technical Services, QA/QC, Procurement, PSM, Marketing and Commercial (Sales) as needed
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position

Education, Training:      

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in food/nutritional science, Master’s or Doctoral degrees preferred.  Position responsibilities commensurate with level of knowledge and experience

  • Interest in nutritional ingredients, food, beverage and nutraceuticals

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items with use of fingers and perceives attributes of objects and materials
  • Involves moderate physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature
  • Should be able to identify and distinguish colors, see clearly at 20 inches or closer and 20 feet or more, observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, judge distances and spatial relationships, and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.

  • Periodic domestic travel, with some international travel potentially required (0-20%)
