Job Summary

The Global Logistics Specialist position is responsible in supporting domestic and international trade activities required to successfully deliver materials in a compliant manner around the globe. A Global Logistics Specialist will work diligently to ensure that documentation compliance and logistics functions are executed professionally, timely, and proficiently.


Essential Functions

  • Utilize appropriate shipping methods (FCL, LCL, FTL, LTL, air, intermodal, rail, ocean, etc.) to maximize service and cost
  • Ensures international shipments meet all regulatory and corporate guidelines.
  • Hold carriers and freight forwarders accountable for agreed pricing and service standards
  • Executes the timely delivery of goods and documents, requiring accuracy, understanding and concise proof-reading to successfully support delivery of goods to the customers.
  • Understanding of complex federal import/export laws and regulations including but not limited to the U.S. Customs regulations, FDA regulations, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and product classification (HTS and ECCN).
  • Understanding of NAFTA and other global trade programs.
  • Stay well-informed of changes in export laws and regulations that impact the operations of the organization. The specialist will interpret, decide and direct the application of complex governmental regulations and maintain contact with related regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in the development and publishing of internal and external manuals related to import and export requirements.
  • In-depth review of complex legal regulatory documents to successfully address and respond to questions or issues identified by internal and external parties.
  • Utilize SAP and other trade systems to execute load delivery and trade documentation
  • Communicate with, train and collaborate with direct contacts within sales, customer service, quality, third-party service providers and other colleagues on trade issues and policies governing successful entry of product into foreign markets.
  • Participate in and lead meetings as required with Customer Service, Finance, Warehousing, and external providers to achieve the goal of international trade compliance and efficiency.
  • Serves as liaison between internal customer base and external logistics providers, providing quotes, arranging freight, communicating logistics protocols, and providing instructions to vendors and logistics partners.
  • Translate complex technical details, decide, and direct specific actions including process change management to meet customer requirements as needed.
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects, involving fast changing business conditions and is always professional, business minded and results oriented.
  • Provide backup and support to team members as needed.


Additional Functions

  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or HR.
  • Provide leadership through example, explain decisions, and share knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university in Supply Chain / Logistics / Customs Mgmt. / International Studies; or a minimum of four years related export experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with freight management and international compliance regulations.
  • Strong customer service, customer development, or business development experience
  • Experience with ERP systems: SAP



  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret applicable scientific or technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to solve practical problems, make decisions and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to generate accurate and precise information to support generation of trade documents and review accuracy of documents from internal departments and outside agencies.
  • Advanced spread sheet skills and proficiency with databases
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate efficiently both verbally and in written form.
