Job Summary

The Contract Manufacturing Manager is responsible for managing GN’s contract manufacturer supply base as assigned, ensuring systems and controls are in place to sufficiently meet our external processing demands.  This includes managing the relationship with our strategic and non-strategic contract manufacturers (CMs), scheduling and tracking production, measuring and tracking KPIs, and holding regular performance reviews with strategic partners.  As part of the wider Supply Chain Planning team, this role is responsible for aligning external processing capabilities with our projected requirements, leveraging the Planning COE to understand and support future capacity needs.  The ultimate goal is to ensure we meet required GN customer demand by leveraging vendor capabilities outside our internal network.


Essential Functions

  • Manage overall relationship with internal and/or external CMs related to assigned types of work.
  • Identify the CMs to use for new or existing products based on total value: cost, capabilities and service.
  • Negotiate prices with CMs and maintain updated/agreed prices in system where applicable.  Maintain and supply all required cost information to PSM, finance, etc. as requested.
  • Liase with supply planners to provide regular forecasts to CMs in order to secure capacity needed. Develop platforms to remain integrated with the Planning team, with full consideration to future processing needs.
  • Ensure overall CM capabilities are maintained, tracked, and aligned to current and future business needs. 
  • Issue Purchase Orders for production, warehousing, and other services related to production (e.g. cleaning, pallets, etc.) at CMs, ensuring correct quantities, prices, and dates.
  • Track daily production at CMs and follow-up as needed to ensure supply is available to meet customer demand.
  • Inform supply planners of any production delays or concerns immediately.  Provide status updates as requested. 
  • Troubleshoot production or process non-compliances at CMs.  Leveraging our internal COE functions to drive non-compliance issues to resolution and developing clear actions focused on issue prevention. 
  • Track CM performance to KPIs and support scorecard administration/data management.  Support the CMs through the agreed scorecard process.
  • As required, travel to CM facilities for scorecard meetings, process improvements, etc.  Give clear, professional presentations to large groups at CMs from various functions (e.g. executive leadership, QA, Production, R&D, etc.) and facilitate group discussions.
  • Oversee the co-man setup process from start to finish, supporting each department involved (e.g. QA, Procurement, Commercialization, etc.) and ensuring the entire process is moving along smoothly according to agreed timelines. 
  • Ensure all processes handled by the CMs align to Glanbia internal procedures and expectations (e.g. warehouse, shipping, etc.).
  • Seeks and supports implementation of solutions for process and system improvements related to the CM process
  • Support NPD and other COEs (e.g. Tech Services, QA, Procurement, etc.) by working as a key liaison with our CMs for activities such as trial coordination, contracts, specification and capability alignment with each facility, etc.
  • Oversee the invoicing process.  Regularly review the LIV log and resolve any invoice discrepancies to ensure CMs are paid in a timely manner.
  • Load timely and accurate information into CM databases (e.g. batch records, CM information, landed cost, etc.)
  • Participate and/or present in key cross-functional internal meetings (e.g. S&OP, CM Alignment call, etc.)


Additional Functions

  • Presentations in conference calls, small meetings and large division meetings.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures both internal and at vendors.
  • Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Attend trade shows and use the learnings to improve job performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



  • Must possess a degree in a related field of study, or more than 6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Must be able to prioritize, organize, and delegate assignments.
  • Must possess a logical approach and be capable of detailed cost analyses & business planning.
  • Must have excellent presentation skills and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people from various cultures and backgrounds.
  • Must be self-directed and have excellent follow-up capabilities
  • Must be detail oriented and organized.
  • Must have excellent written and speaking skills
  • Must be able to lead an effective meeting with senior level manager.
  • Should have a background in food products and food manufacturing

  • Regularly involves talking or listening, sitting, and the use of hands and fingers to handle or feel.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers.
  • Involves light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature.


Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels (i.e. office equipment, light traffic, factory equipment).
  • May occasionally be exposed to fumes and toxic chemicals.
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts.


Travel Requirements

    • Overnight travel (up to 30%) by land and/or air.
