Job Summary

The Microbiologist/QA Team lead  performs a variety of tasks to ensure the lab runs efficiently and to quality specifications including monitoring PEM program, calibration program, documentation control, chemical testing,  retain sampling program, RCA on product quality isues and process deviations.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Runs and supervises Micro Lab: a. Schedule lab tech work time and tasks; b. Conduct lab tech job trainings & cross trainings; c. Create or modify lab related documents; d. Monitor lab expense; e. Monitor all kinds of testing reports (FG COAs,
  • Sterility Reports, FG Micro testing, Environmental testing, Allergen Verification Testing, Micro Corrective Action Report, Corrective Action Report (ATP& Allergen&PAA), Retain Sampling Report and FG Thermal Stress Testing Report, etc.)
  • Monitor PEM (Pathogenic Environmental Monitor) program: a. Analyze the testing data to add/decrease sampling points or modify the testing spec per data history analysis, auditing requirement and actual need; b. Conduct micro testing
  • and allergen testing validation through 3rd lab; c. Manage corrective action report system for micro test OOS.
  • Manage calibration of all QC measuring instruments (pH meter, refractometer, Solid Analyzer, Scale, ATP instruments, Torque and Viscometer, etc.) and lab equipment. Make sure it is scheduled on time for outside calibration and reparation.
  • Monitor internal calibration documents.
  • Manage FS and QM SOPs being updated in time; Create/update documents (Policy, SOP, List, Chart, Log, SWI, etc.) for lab related program (PEM, Retain, Calibration, Chemical Testing, etc.).
  • Manage plant physical/chemical testing Program (create/update SOPs, Logs and Master List) to meet customer requirements
  • Monitor Lab suppliers inventory and plant testing chemicals inventory
  • Manage FG, Raw Ingredient and pre-process retain sampling program
  • Monitor the reviewing program to make all crucial data records (ATP, Micro, Allergen, Calibration, Chemical testing, etc.) fully known by related departments in time and give the direction of corrective action in case OOS; Filling all related records.
  • Monitor on PFMS (Pall Filter Management System)
  • Monitor Shelf Life Study and Foreign Material Analysis
  • Validation testing and fully support new system of ATP and Allergen reconciliation by creating online logs for PK Room and Batching Area and arrange the work flow to get timely report to related management team etc.
  • Colloborates with other Quality sub-teams to manage release of finished products after proper record review.
  • Utilize SPC and other statistical tools to improve areas within the QA function. Collaborate with other Quality Team members or cross-functional team members to produce and distribute reports analyzing food safety and quality compliance trends, efficacy and efficiency improvement as well as cost-savings opportunities. Report routinely to management where unacceptable QA or Food Safety results or improvement recommendations have been identified.
  • Prepares reports that document testing activities, test results, and operational issues involving product quality and safety and present to factory, Plant Management and Corporate.
  • Supports in training programs for all plant individuals on food safety and quality related topics.
  • Conducts internal GMP auditing

 

Qualification & Experience Requirements

 

Education, Training:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Food Science, Microbiology or Chemistry
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of laboratory and manufacturing safety protocols.
  • Working knowledge of good laboratory and manufacturing practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), to include speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be results focused and oriented toward accomplishment of team.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include overtime when needed.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions finished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to work with amino acids, vitamins and fine chemicals in powder and liquid form as well as allergen products.

 

Language, Computer &  Numeracy:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and written
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measures, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to interpret bar graphs
  • Computer skills and proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience with SAP is preferred
