The Procurement Category Manager for Packaging will be responsible for developing and executing procurement packaging strategies to provide business-building innovation, assurance of supply, superior cost management, and uncompromising stewardship. Key responsibilities include development of procurement strategies, delivery of cost savings through commercial and technical project management, and effective supplier relationship management with suppliers. 

Key focus areas include sourcing strategy definition, deployment, and stakeholder management, to maximize total cost of ownership savings and procurement value contribution. Works in collaboration with the business to understand business needs, develop regional market insights, risks and opportunities, and help drive goals. He/She drives Procurement value contribution to Glanbia while ensuring compliance with policies, strategies and processes


Strategy Development and Sourcing Execution
Description: Development and implementation of procurement packaging strategies with cross functional teams to include the analysis of emerging technologies, supplier capability analysis, and supplier relationship management.  

To include:

  • Build consensus and drive alignment amongst key stakeholders in support of procurement initiatives and programs (sourcing, implementation, compliance)

  • Provide key stakeholders with SME leadership and guidance and access, analyze and present relevant market intelligence to inform stakeholders aligned with the Sourcing strategy and business strategy.

  • Develop a pipeline of projects, working with leadership and key stakeholders to align resources for support as needed

  • Lead sourcing events, supplier negotiation strategy and process and manage stakeholder engagement and alignment throughout the end-to-end sourcing process

  • Manage bid proposals (RFI/RFP), requirements documentation, service level agreements (SLA), purchase/service agreements and other related documents as needed.

  • Document Business Award Recommendations (BARs) for all business awards compliant against policy. 

  • Find alternate and innovative ideas to provide business solutions, challenge requirements and specifications to create a competitive advantage

  • Drive project execution (including project prioritization, securing resources, governance and controls)

  • Evolve sourcing and procurement processes based on category specific business or internal stakeholder requirements.

  • Execute and monitor action plans and report progress against strategies to address issues/improve performance

  • Creation, validation and review of cost models to influence total cost of ownership

  • Build “should cost” financial models to understand cost structures in support of sourcing events and efforts to identify cost savings opportunities.

  • Measuring effectiveness and delivering value

  • Write Business Service and/or supply chain procedures, and gain alignment for change management activities, to further drive process controls and compliance

  • Provide regular reports to senior leadership team on strategy, savings and other KPIs.

  • Maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department heads and other stakeholders regarding Sourcing activities.

  • Regional Sourcing Strategy Owner, most likely 2-4, to include development, alignment and execution


Supplier Management and Shepherding of Supplier Capabilities
Description: Through collaborative efforts with suppliers and internal stakeholders, identify innovative initiatives that reduce costs, improve quality and service

To include:

  • Identify and qualify potential new suppliers to ensure forward looking visibility of best in class cost, service delivery, service offerings and future service or capability roadmap.

  • Strategically manage supplier relationships. Coordinate ongoing supplier management practices with internal customers to optimize financial and operational performance.

  • Foster and develop suppliers innovation pipeline to meet internal stakeholder goals

  • Support efforts to resolve ongoing supplier performance issues that negatively impact the cost, quality or service performance levels

  • Assist stakeholders in managing supplier relationships, tracking supplier performance, and communicating performance feedback to suppliers

  • Proactively organize sessions with internal stakeholders and Suppliers to identify Total Cost of Ownership reduction opportunities at Glanbia and at the Supplier

  • Manage and monitor supplier contracts and compliance

  • Work with cross functional team to establish Supplier KPIs and Scorecards

  • Will likely act as formal Supplier Relationship Owner (SRO) against 5 or more suppliers to include formalization of Supplier Briefs, Quarterly Supplier Business Reviews and annual Top-to-Top Reviews.  


Tactical Procurement Support
Description: Will have procurement support resources but will also get involved in tactical supply assurance issues and tracking of costs, cost savings, contract management and other important metrics.

To include but not limited to:

  • Secure knowledge transfer and exchange by creating and storing project deliverables and relevant tools and templates in knowledge repositories

  • Payment Terms recording and performance improvement tracking

  • Cost Savings Tracking implementation – the recording of current and 1-3 years-out of future value creation opportunities

  • Support savings tracking processes, measure contract compliance and other key metrics to ensure targets are being met and value is being delivered to the business

  • Lead contract implementation and contract compliance as pre procurement policies with the assistance of Group Legal with suppliers to ensure that service, quality, added value, total cost, security of supply, and the deployment of the suppliers capabilities in innovation, are secured


Procurement Horizontal Work Process Ownership
Description: Will act as a procurement horizontal work process owner for at least 1 major Procurement Work Process.  Responsibility includes designing or updating the process, measuring its performance, and training the employees who perform it. As owner the HWPO ensures the process design evolves as business conditions and needs change.


People Management Responsibility

Description: Lead Sourcing Team of 1-2 persons

To Include:

  • Leads team of Individual Contributors by setting overall initiatives, allocating financial and human capital for programs and projects, and ensuring timely and effective delivery of programs in line with the Glanbia values

  • Foster the Glanbia Values through outstanding service and attitude

  • Accountable for the attraction, development and succession of talent within the team, coupled with supporting the overall talent pipeline and development. Additionally responsible for team shape amending structure if business needs arise.

  • Own Decisions around organization design, objective setting, resource allocation and ways of working.

  • Using leadership acumen to ensure top-level talent is in place within the organization while continually developing current talent to achieve greater strategic goals and performance

  • Providing direction and directives to the team members in the performance of their duties; establishing work priorities and in achieving management objectives
