Job Summary:

The Category Analyst will be responsible for operational and tactical duties within the Procurement Department.  This role will support the execution of defined procurement strategies by creation of RFQ’s, organization of resulting competitive bids to identify best quality, delivery and price for goods/services, as well as assist with the implementation and transition of new sources of supply.  With guidance from Category Managers and Specialists, be responsible to gather data from various sources, analyze, prepare and present in appropriate formats, e.g. graphics, baseline metrics, savings methodologies, tracking and reporting. The primary functions are to become a sourcing process expert, be able to translate information from the category managers into system documents (e.g. contracts, material master information etc.), help analyze sourcing data (Business Objects, JDA, etc.) and trouble shoot raw material issues that arise with other Supply Chain groups.


Essential Functions:

Customer Service:

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external key stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach in delivering business outcomes
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction are achieved
  • Partner with AP, Suppliers and various internal teams to ensure timely resolution of PO/Invoice discrepancies
  • Work in partnership both internally and with suppliers to develop innovative solutions to address inventory surpluses or deficits and expired materials
  • Partner with Category team to manage and maintain supplier scorecards
  • Support 2nd Sourcing efforts by initiating requests, collecting documentation and samples and tracking materials through the process.



  • Analyze large data sets from SAP, Business Objects, and Ariba to extract pertinent information in support of decision making and leveraging with global counterparts
  • Analyze pricing proposals, financial reports, and other data to validate supplier pricing and capabilities
  • Measure actual vs planned savings
  • Using input from the category team, build the category metrics model to track and monitor performance in relationship to the category strategy



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:   Basic information of the position

  • Drive and willingness to learn
  • Basic knowledge of the Microsoft Suite (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Basic knowledge of SAP, Business Objects, JDA and Ariba preferred
  • Basic project management and organizational skills
    • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and across a multi-national organization
        Decision Making/ Problem Solving:
  1.  Perform category evaluation to outline a plan for every part and identify potential risks in continuity of supply.
  2. Provide market intelligence on relevant categories as well as assess impact to given categories along with proposed action plans.                



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • Zero to two years’ experience in strategic sourcing, contract negotiations, or commensurate experience.
