To support the organization’s sales activities, GPN employs a Category Manager based in Downers Grove, IL.  The role is responsible for developing the category management function in a key category that drives Glanbia’s business unit. You’ll help us ensure that our category leadership position is upheld with category and shopper insight that drives the commercial performance of a select group of brands, and our value retail partners’ categories.  The role is responsible for advising & supporting the growth of a select key category through fact-based decision making on product assortment/mix, shelf placement all driven by deep insights at the shopper and category level, as well as leading and developing your teammates in the category analyst group. This position reports to the Director of Category Management


Primary Responsibilities in Category Management


  • Supports sales team in the sell in and execution of AMPSs (assortment/merchandising/pricing/shelving guidance) for selected category segment.
  • Assist the director of category management in the development of Glanbia’s best practices and ensure a contemporary approach to the market/category with your peers in sales and marketing.
  • Engage and share key insights directly alongside trade marketing and sales, with top customers that help inform management of annual JBP and identify opportunities for future joint value creation.
  • Work with the insights and analytics group to mine shopper data to help deliver comprehensive, compelling category stories
  • Ensures Top Customer representation in the BU Sales Planning development of Channel Strategies Commercial & Category Playbooks
  • Provides customer data and insights that informs BU Sales & Customer Planning’s understanding of customer shopper, strategies and help identify mutual distribution, shelving, merchandising, and pricing opportunities.
  • Support the organization with ad-hoc category management insight
  • Gather & utilize intelligence of product categories, segments, sub-categories, types, sizes/formats, pricing, product sales information, competitive products and sales information
  • Integrate Category Management & Shopper Insights into Customer Marketing and Brand Marketing materials, including providing insights and solutions that address assortment, merchandising, pricing and shelving.
  • Work with senior Sales and Marketing leaders on category management projects
  • Respond to requests from various internal and external business partners on investigational modeling and research studies



  • Bachelors/University degree in Business Administration, MBA Preferred
  • 5+ years Category Management (with preference for time spent working in Consumer & Shopper Insights) in North America.
  • Exposure to multiple retail classes of consumer packaged goods retail channels – E-commerce, Mass, Club, Grocery, Specialty/Department, Dollar, Drug – is an asset
  • Exceptional analytical skills and acute attention to details with good understanding of syndicated consumption data and various toolsets.
  • Strong project management skills, self-motivated with a strong work ethic and exceptional drive for results and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and lead cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to present data in an organized manner with advanced skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Travel requirements vary based on company and customer needs
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, complex, matrix and fluid environment.
  • Ability to influence decision-makers up and down one level to ensure a fully-aligned customer/company business plan.
  • Desire and ability to assist Glanbia in building organizational capabilities and drive execution of business unit strategy.
  • Ability to devise and deliver persuasive presentations, based on data-driven insights and facts, to gain support for business strategies and/or initiatives.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office applications, Tableau, database information sources, and web applications.
  • Positive can-do attitude – collaborative, team-oriented approach – diligent work ethic.
