Job Summary

 

To provide legal advice to ensure regulatory compliance of GPN’s food/dietary supplement products with applicable laws and mitigate attendant risk, including monitoring relevant enforcement actions of FDA, USDA and FTC, relevant litigation trends in the food/dietary supplement industry, intellectual property rights (trade secret, trademark licensing, copyright, etc.), California Proposition 65, privacy and data security, sweepstakes and contests, and consumer protection and perform such additional tasks as assigned by the Managing Counsel, Global Regulatory Affairs.

Description

  • Independently handle basic legal matters and regulatory projects. Recognizes when to elevate certain matters to the attention of the Managing Counsel for the Regulatory Affairs Department.
  • Assist with regulatory due diligence on potential acquisitions, strategic investments, and divestitures.
  • Participate in the design of new product launches by providing regulatory and advertising expertise on product formulation, package design, labeling, and claims development including mandatory nutrition labeling, health claims, nutrient content claims, ingredient declaration and allergen labeling.
  • Review and approve regulatory/nutrition components of final packaging artwork, label copy, advertising, promotional, and educational materials, press releases, and research concepts for substantiation and compliance.
  • Consult and collaborate across functions to help develop strategies, policies and procedures to lower legal risk in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, R&D, Quality and Scientific Affairs to substantiate claims, or suggest alternatives, to ensure compliance with applicable FDA, USDA and FTC regulations.
  • Assist with developing and presenting FDA food labeling and FTC food advertising workshops and other training materials and resources used internally to ensure best practices for compliance.
  • Monitor global regulatory legal developments through participation in industry trade associations, monitoring of newsletters and government websites and other methods, and communicate significant issues to management.

 

Education/Experience Requirements

•          J.D. from accredited law school and license to practice law required

•          Status of attorney in good standing in a state bar association

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Minimum of 3-5 years of related legal experience, preferably with time spent in both a top-tier law firm and/or global consumer products company in the Food/Dietary Supplement industry.

 

 

Other Experience

 

  • Excellent knowledge of US regulations and requirements (FDA/USDA/FTC) for food and/or dietary supplements
  • Knowledge of international food regulations a plus
  • Ability to solve or seek out answers in order to provide guidance on regulatory matters
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize, work in a fast pace environment and have attention to detail
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • Strong written, analytical, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, think creatively and achieve results
