Manager, Business Development

General Summary: Responsible for product categories and formats (powders, RTE, RTD, C&T). Interface on the front end of product development with 3rd party co-packers. Maintain strong relationships with existing co-packers. Leverage existing and develop new capabilities. Develop performance metrics around NPD execution (internal and external). Develop new strategic relationships and capabilities through new co-packers. 

This person requires drive and a “can-do” attitude.  This person will push the pace of innovation, without compromising quality or delivery.  This person will have outstanding interpersonal skills to facilitate cross functional alignment & drive progression. This person will have strong skills sets around negotiation, influence and project management. This person will represent GPN with suppliers/customers.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Process and Project Management:

    Insure that projects are being lead and managed with the right balance of rigor and discipline. Follow the established processes and protocols; find ways to be nimble and adaptable, challenge and insure project pacing.  Key processes reside within stage gate, quality, systems (SAP, JDA) and R&D. The ability to provide insight to critical pathways and the ability to play “devil’s advocate” are critical to this position.

     

  • Product/Process/Packaging:

    Have sufficient depth of knowledge on ingredients, formulations, transformation processes and packaging. Be able to drive strategic planning around NPD ideation and project advancement.  Ability to work with 3rd parties (co-mans and customers) to translate what they know and what they need into actionable ideas and plans. Partner with the Supply Planning department to deliver them a co-man “final solution” that can be seamlessly integrated into the day-to-day of the demand planning and scheduling functions.

     

  • Supply Chain:

    First-hand experience working the supply chain from end-to-end to understand how each step relies on the previous step and the needs of the next step. This person must think and plan inclusively and not in silos.  This person needs strong working knowledge of demand planning, supply planning and logistics. Understanding capacity management is important.

     

  • Operations:

    First-hand experience within manufacturing/operations is critical.  The need to translate conceptual ideas to practical application will be constant.  Know-how from living in this space is paramount.

     

  • Operational Excellence:

    This position requires hands on experience with driving tactical and strategic improvement through ways-of-working, best practice, metric driven performance, measurement tools and trackers, daily management systems and continuous improvement systems.

 

  • Communication:

    Internal cross functional leadership will be a principle aspect of this job. Clear alignment at all times from inception to closure will insure that projects happen in a timely fashion and without flaw. Of significant import will be; external collaboration with copacker partners and contract customers. This person will need to achieve the right balance of customer service and integrity, whilst insuring that GPN’s needs are always addressed.

  • Technical knowledge: Food Science, Engineering, Quality
  • Project Management: Stage Gate, Timelines/Critical Path, Action Registers
  • Business acumen: Consumer, Customer and Supply Chain
  • Financial Acumen: P&L’s, Inventory, Costs, Margin
  • KPI Management: Quality, Cost, Service, Delivery
  • Systems: SAP, JDA
  • Continuous Improvement disciplines
  • Communication: Written and Verbal
  • Ability to negotiate
  • Ability to travel
  • Hands on approach to managing and driving projects.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Science. Business MBA a plus
  • 5-7 years of Operations Management, Supply Chain experience.
  • Experience with managing Co-manufactures
