Job Summary

Responsible for guiding and managing the regulatory processes for the labeling, advertising and marketing of functional foods, dietary supplements, beverages and sports nutrition products  at GPN Americas in order to support achievement of key business goals. This role ensures all regulatory considerations related to claims, product labeling and FDA requirements on all GPN products are properly vetted.  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide regulatory guidance with regards to the labeling, advertising and marketing of functional foods, dietary supplements, beverages and sports nutrition products.
  • Partner on all reformulation and relabeling projects in conjunction with Marketing, R&D and Sales teams. Participate in the design of new product launches by providing regulatory expertise on product formulation, package design, labeling, and claims development including mandatory nutrition labeling, health claims, nutrient content claims, ingredient declaration and allergen labeling.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, R&D, and Scientific Affairs to substantiate claims, or suggest alternatives, to ensure compliance with applicable FDA and FTC regulations.
  • Assist Legal and Marketing with review and approval of regulatory/nutrition components of final packaging artwork, label copy, advertising, promotional, and educational materials, press releases, and research concepts for substantiation and compliance.
  • Guide regulatory specialists (contractors) in developing Label Specification Sheets with all labeling information, Nutrition/Supplement Fact Panels, and ingredient /allergen statements in compliance with FDA regulations.
  • Advise junior team members to review raw material and ingredient compositions for regulatory conformity based on industry guidelines and to develop Nutrition Fact/Supplement Fact panels from Formulation sheets.
  • Collaborate across functions to help develop strategies, policies and procedures in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Create and document standard operating procedures for nutrition databases, labeling and regulatory procedures.
  • Work closely with Technologists and Specialists to ensure consistent label development procedures and provide resources to be used internally to ensure best practices for regulatory compliance.
  • Support policy development by assisting with research and recommendations on positions related to labeling and regulatory procedures to ensure consistency in labeling across all categories for the US and International markets.
  • Review and approval of labels spec sheets and label art for all brands. Ensure compliance and deadlines are both met.
  • Monitor global regulatory developments through participation in industry associations, monitoring of newsletters and government websites and other methods, and communicate significant issues to management.
  • Stay abreast of marketing or claim trends in the media with respect to regulatory compliance.

Other Experience

  • 2 -3 years practicing in the CPG industry , manufacturing
  • Excellent knowledge of US regulations and requirements (FDA/FTC)
  • Knowledge of International Regulations a plus
  • Must have experience managing others (Contractors)
  • Possess/Demonstrate strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to solve or seek out answers in order to provide guidance on regulatory matters
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize, work in a fast pace environment with attention to detail
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • Excellent analytic, technical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong project management skills. Ability to manage multiple short-term tasks and projects effectively under pressure
  • Systems experience in SAP, MS Office and other Regulatory systems
