Job Summary

  • The Material Planner ensures that material resources are planned, ordered and delivered to meet the production schedules while minimizing waste. The Material Planner's responsibilities include creating and maintaining inventory schedules, coordinating with internal departments, and managing external stakeholder relations.  A successful Material Planner should be able to ensure the appropriate supply of cost-efficient materials required to maintain steady production and product delivery.  This role will report into the Material Planning Manager.



Duties and Responsibilities

  • Material management of ingredient and/or packaging components to the manufacturing locations and ensures material is available for production when needed including proactive and reactive problem solving with suppliers.
  • Utilize planning methods to evaluate relevant inventory and consumption data to make recommendations that will reduce cost or increase efficiency. Perform root cause analysis on supply gaps and excess stock for raw materials and packaging.
  • Analyze and communicate constrained materials and recovery plans with the broader product supply group.
  • Develop standard and ad hoc detailed analysis for planning & fulfillment metrics.  Identify key root causes for non-performance, and drive improvement initiatives across the business. 
  • Continuously find opportunities to improve material planning techniques, methods, and approaches. Participate in projects to improve processes, service levels, efficiency, inventory, space, and cost.


Other Experience

  • Knowledge of the position
    • A clear understanding of the relationships between the planning systems and their effect on inventory and service levels
    • Solid knowledge of planning process within an MRP environment
    • Advanced knowledge and use of MRP systems. Experience with JDA a plus
  • Skills of the position
    • Exceptional analytical skills; detail oriented and well organized
    • Exceptional problem solving skills
    • Advanced Excel skills preferred
    • Verbal and written communication skills to convey information that may be somewhat complex to other who may have limited knowledge of the subject in question.
    • Role may require basic negotiation and influence, cooperation, tact and diplomacy, etc.



  • 3 years or Supply Chain 
  • Preferred experience in a CPG supply chain role
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or related area
