This position will work in conjunction with their Director and other members of the R&D department on managing the development of powders, tablets & capsules, ready-to-drink, and ready-to-eat formats from concept through execution.

Note: This is a lab position where all food allergens (milk, soy, nuts, peanuts, wheat, egg, etc…) are present.  This person will be involved in tasting a variety product types and subsequently exposed to them.


Management of Product Development

  • In conjunction with Director, develops and leads a product development team and gives direction and support to initiatives.
  • Contribute to strategy of R&D team for future platform growth in key consumer need state areas. Represent R&D at key meetings, events, customer presentations, etc.
  • Advises and assists on lab formulation, validating ingredient and ingredient vendors, preliminary costing and preparing nutritional and supplement facts panels as needed.
  • Guide, manage, and mentor product development team members.
    • Clearly defines goals and objectives for employees.
    • Meets with team on regular cadence to provide feedback on projects, development efforts, and team goals.
    • Meets with Director on regular cadence to provide feedback on team, projects, development efforts, and team goals.
    • Manages the team’s tasks/priorities along with the necessary steps along the way for foods and supplements including powders, tablets & capsules, ready-to-drink, and ready-to-eat items.
  • Review, interpret, summarize, and provide guidance & recommendations on technical matters.
  • Training of team members in both technical and soft skills areas.
  • Aids in the development and expansion of team members across a number of different areas.
  • Expected to work on proactive product development & innovation and have close working relationships with Scouting/Innovation, Exploration Teams, and Technical Services groups.



  • Reviews formulations, variables tested, product stability, and other pertinent details in product development lab notebooks as needed.
  • Prepares monthly reports as needed
  • Attend project meetings, and other relevant cross functional meetings as required.
  • Review and signoff on minor expenses.



  • Work closely with leads of the other R&D functions, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, etc., to align on product development objectives and meet and exceed target needs.
  • Contributes to innovation, trouble shooting, and brain storming ideas in a team environment.
  • Identifies & overcomes barriers to successful product development by developing strong interdepartmental relationships with customer, manufacturing, supply chain, accounting, quality, and purchasing teams.
  • Understands customer needs, business needs and strategy.
  • Forge relationships with universities, key suppliers and purchasing team to keep abreast of upcoming trends, to solicit and secure opportunities for new ideas, technologies, ingredients, and packaging materials.


Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Advanced knowledge in more than one of the aforementioned formats (Powders, Tabs/Caps, RTDs, Bars/RTE, etc.) is a must. 
  • Proven track record of developing new concepts & bringing products to market.
  • As necessary able to formulate independently based on customer requirements for a project identifying any potential issues and alerting director or customer.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and presentation skills, ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, and have the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously in a high-paced environment, and stays in control under pressure.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and “think outside the box” handling multiple projects/tasks at one time.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate across both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent  analytical, written and organizational skills with the ability to manage complex technical information
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and follows GMP lab & factory guidelines.
  • Understands daily lab processes & production processes
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and MS Office programs
  • Lives and embeds in the team the GPN values daily.


Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of relevant experience in formulation, working in food, beverage or dietary supplement industry or equivalent experience. Preferred degree, Masters in Food Science, Nutrition, or related field.
  • Previous Flavor Application and knowledge is essential.
  • Prior development and knowledge of dietary supplements is an advantage.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and nutritional software. SAP experience preferred.
