Strategy & Corporate Development Manager

Manager of Strategy & Corporate Development:

 

The successful candidate must be a thought leader, able to develop and synthesize complex market and competitive information across multiple segments, markets and channels, identifying market trends and opportunities.  This role uses multiple data sources and inputs to identify and anticipate customer needs, transforming analysis into actionable recommendations for portfolio growth, market expansion, investment, or operational enhancement.  The role must effectively share ideas and work closely with GPN leadership to evaluate strategic actions and establish priorities.

 

This role requires leadership, communication, and presentation skills coupled with the ability to ensure exceptional execution of solid, fact-based analysis and business case development in a fast paced environment.  In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the incumbent is involved with day-to-day commercial, operational and people issues and projects such as sales force effectiveness, organizational structure and near-term business planning.

 

The ROLE: 


Reporting to the VP of Strategy and Corporate Development in Downers Grove, IL, responsibilities are centered on identifying and supporting growth opportunities across the business:

  • Work closely with the Business Unit leaders to help develop the Company's 1-year and 3-year plans, ensuring full alignment of all Business Unit plans with Group requirements
  • Provide strategic support to senior regional management 
  • Project manage a variety of Strategic growth initiatives
  • Support corporate development activity (e.g. help identify acquisition targets, build business cases, manage aspects of due diligence)
  • Engagement with and possibly leadership of diverse range of projects that cross functions/geographies and as such have no obvious owner

 

The candidate selected for this position will be a creative, out-of-the-box thinker who is intellectually curious with a demonstrated interest in learning. This person will also need to be a self-motivated, high-energy individual who can easily function in a high demand, performance-driven environment. He/she must be accustomed to working on multiple tasks in parallel. This professional must demonstrate strong leadership skills, best demonstrated by the individual’s ability to gain credibility with team members and senior management.

 

Ideal experience and education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related subject required; MBA strongly preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience – which must include Strategy experience gained either as a Strategy consultant or as a manager within an in-house strategy function
  • Strong analytical skills with the intelligence to develop clear insights for the business
  • Action-oriented individual, able to cut through clutter/ambiguity and quickly drive meaningful business results
  • Ability to structure, write and deliver insightful presentations independently
  • Strong project management capability
  • Track record of success in dealing effectively with complex projects entailing frequent interaction with senior executives
  • Ability to quickly establish rapport, credibility, trust, and respect, with peers, team members and executives
  • Broad-based business acumen
  • Experience participating in commercial due diligence
  • Able to lead an acquisition search and to strategically evaluate acquisition targets
  • Ability to work independently with credibility at all levels of the organization
  • Happy to work on the details and on big-picture tasks
  • CPG and Retail experience advantageous - food/nutrition sector experience is a plus
