Senior Network Projects Engineer

 

An opportunity has arisen within Glanbia Business Services for an experienced Senior Network & Projects Engineer. This is a permanent position and will report to the Network Architect. This position is based in our Citywest, Dublin 24 office.

 

Overview

This role will have a really nice blend of projects and BAU tasks. You will be tasked with supporting, planning, procurement, design and delivery of key network solutions for a large user base. You will ideally be coming from a background in enterprise class network environments.

 

The Senior Network Projects Engineer will form a vital part of the GBS Network & Technical Security Team and will report to the Network Architect. The network team support a global network spanning 134 global locations and with varying site-types, from production plants to warehouses to corporate offices.  There are 2 Dublin-based and 1 US-based datacentre locations at the core of the network, providing a highly resilient network environment. This level of resilience and redundancy is driven throughout the organisation's communications networks. The network must support transmission of business critical applications such as ERP, MES, LIMS, SAP, S4B, video-conferencing, collaboration tools, web and cloud services. The team work closely with key vendors and managed-service partners for network and security services.

 

Key elements of the role

  • Vendor management within a managed-service environment is a key part of the role, reporting of key SLAs and KPIs and driving the Network & Security Service Partners to deliver to those metrics and provide a high level of customer experience
  • Manage & assist in global and local network deployment projects to ensure smooth delivery of network installations and to deliver best-in-class agreed network standards
  • Deliver network solutions to the internal business units in response to their high-level business requirements, ensuring their needs are met through network solutions
  • Liaise with network managed-service partner to ensure high standard of delivery of management & maintenance of 900+ network devices globally
  • Liaise with Security managed-service partners to ensure high standard of deliver
  • Document solution proposals using best-practice delivery of highly resilient networks
  • Provide level 3 network support to Global Servicedesk on internal customer network issues relating to LAN, WLAN, WAN, VPN & firewall filtering
  • Provide mentoring and support to other network team members, deploy sandbox

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science

 

Experience / Requirements

  • Previous experience with managed-service partners, vendor management & service delivery
  • Experience with reporting and delivery of SLAs & KPIs
  • Strong experience in enterprise routing, switching & Wireless LAN & network security
  • Strong working knowledge of firewall design and network security protocols:  Firewall ACLs, NAT, IPSec site to site VPNs, SSL VPNs, encryption levels, hashing algorithms
  • Good working knowledge of fibre-optic cabling, structured cabling systems, electrical power and best practices
  • Vast experience troubleshooting enterprise network issues and application of realistic solutions within the context of the business
  • Ability to document and illustrate network proposals and solutions in articulate manner
  • Ability to communicate ideas and solutions very well
