Job Summary


The Demand Planner I supports the process of deriving a collaborative demand forecast, which is used as the basis for the S&OP Process (Sales & Operational Planning).  The role coordinates with the sales team and provides analytical guidance to ensure demand forecasts are updated as accurately and timely as possible.   Through demand analytics that combine statistical forecasts (i.e. baseline) and direct market input from the sales force, the DP I supports the commercial forecasting process to establish final consensus demand.  The ultimate objective is to provide the business with the most accurate demand forecast, resulting in optimal supply positions that fully support growing customer needs.


Essential Functions


  • Regularly analyze historical demand patterns to develop ‘baseline’ statistical forecast predictions.
  • Finalize consensus demand through collaboration:
    • Support the commercial and product mgt. teams, collaborating with each team to combine system forecast predictions with customer inputs.  Support Demand Planning function to determine final consensus forecast.
    • Capture all demand inputs resulting from promotions, new launches, new customers, etc.
  • Provide ongoing ‘alerts’ to supply planners, sales, etc. for sales exceeding forecasts.
  • Direct actions to ensure stocks remain at optimal levels to support demand.
  • Monitor & manage regional allocations, escalating issues as required. 
  • Make recommendations on demand prioritization, based on system outputs on costs, service, probability, risk, etc. 
  • Support Demand Planning function as required in monthly supply/demand balancing processes with wider stakeholders.
  • Maintain ongoing visibility of ‘true’ demand versus ‘constrained’ demand (i.e. constrained by regional allocations or supply).  Report lost sales opportunities monthly.
  • Monitor forecast accuracy to drive improvement.
    • Determine root cause of variations – data or sales/customer inputs.
    • Develop strategies to tighten adherence to targets.
  • Produce weekly tracking reports (forecast vs. actual activity) to ensure visibility of gaps.  Generate action plans to reduce variability.
  • As a function of demand variability or forecast error, work with Supply Planners to develop objective safety stock targets per product.  Review/adjust on regular frequencies.
    • Monitor safety stock levels to ensure demand is protected.
  • Provide guidance as the formal communication channel between all demand inputs and the Supply Planners (i.e. feed final demand direct to Supply Planners).  Ensure the Supply Planning function is in sync with all demand changes.
  • Provide analysis and support the Demand Planning function in monthly Demand Review meetings with key stakeholders (commercial team, product mgt., finance, etc.) as part of the recurring S&OP cycle to illustrate forecast performance, risks and opportunities.
  • Track & monitor service level KPIs for the demand planning function.
  • Support Demand Planning team in efforts to implement system enhancements required to adapt to changing business environments, processes, or products.
  • Support Demand Planning strategies that will drive continuous improvement in relation to demand planning.

Additional Functions


  • Perform other duties as assigned.




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or related fields and at least 3 years of supply chain management experience, preferably in the demand planning arena.
  • Knowledge of supply chain excellence gained within best in class supply chain environments.
  • Experience in supply chain technology/processes/software such as SAP, JdA, Manhattan Associates, Manugistics, JIT, ERP, etc.  Strong proficiency with advanced Excel skills.
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting closely spaced, ambitious timelines.


  • Experience in leading cross functional teams with proven ability to direct decision making.
