With this growth rate comes significant and rapid change, both organizationally and strategically.  We are looking for an Interim Packaging Technologist, initially for 6 months, with a high level of energy and drive to support the growing business. 

 

This is a customer facing role, reporting to the Packaging Technologist Team Leader to manage the introduction of new packaging, for use in manufactured products, or amended packaging due to design changes, alternative Supplier appointment etc.

 

Principal accountabilities include:

  • To work closely with the internal and external stakeholders including contract customers and suppliers to deliver packaging changes and introductions from concept to execution
  • To provide cover across the Packaging team during holidays, sickness etc
  • Agreeing a critical path with customers, internal or external, to target an efficient and professional process
  • To manage the agreed critical path to ensure adherence to timescales
  • To attend Print Passes on behalf of GPN and customer.  Approve the print when required.
  • To confirm item sizes, colours, materials, cutter guides and other key requirements with customers and to brief these accordingly
  • To attend customer meetings as required
  • Ability to manage the introduction of new or amended packaging correctly to avoid write-offs.
  • Responsible for ensuring the control over value of order placed and decisions taken to avoid any financial loss.
  • Continuously seek out and review new packaging concepts/developments to present to the business.
  • Continuously monitor packaging for cost saving and weight reduction opportunities and, where appropriate, manage trials and implementation.

 

Skills, Know How and experience:

  • Proven experience of end to end packaging development management.
  • Thorough understanding of printing techniques and Supply Chain.
  • Institute of Packaging by exam is essential or a packing or food science related degree.
  • Extensive experience of direct Customer liaison and the management of multiple complex projects.
  • Extensive operational knowledge of all MS programmes and a working knowledge of SAP are essential to this role.
  • Proven experience of packaging supply and design.
  • Possess knowledge of packaging waste legislation and assist with the annual packaging waste return.
  • Organisational skills are essential – Proven experience required of prioritising and planning
  • Excellent attention to detail; accuracy is essential to the role.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently on own projects and under own initiative - ability to think on feet in a changing environment.
  • Must be strong team player, tenacious and also be able to engage well with others.
  • Ability to work to moving targets in a dynamic industry.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
