The primary functions of this role will be to:

A full time permanent vacancy has arisen for the position of a laboratory technician in the Glanbia Central Laboratory, situated at Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. It will involve working with a dedicated team of technicians, laboratory manager and related staff to carry out a range of Chemistry and Microbiology analyses relevant to milk quality control and quality assurance.

 

Key Responsibilities

Raw Milk analysis including a range of:

  • Microbiological methods including Testing of  private well water, SPC, culture methods;
  • Rapid Microbiology Tests: Bactoscan, Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISA), PCR, LCMS/MS;
  • Antibiotic/ Inhibitor analysis;
  • Chemistry methods including FTIR, Gerber, Kjeldahl;
  • Excellent completion of all documentation and maintenance of records;
  • Successful implementation and participation in internal and external proficiency tests;
  • Equipment cleaning, maintenance and calibration;
  • Day to day maintenance of laboratory hygiene standards;
  • Timely escalation of non-conformances or potential non-conformances including participation in laboratory investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • The laboratory is fully accredited to CLAS.  The technician will be required to participate in in-house training, the quality assurance system, accreditation process and internal audits.

 

Key Requirements:

  • BSc Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry or equivalent Quality related Science qualification;
  • Knowledge of and track record in the Agri/Dairy sector;
  • A good communicator and ability to work as part of a team;
  • Excellent IT skills;
  • An ability to interpret test data and Problem Solving skills;
  • Track record of Lean Manufacturing an advantage;
  • Flexible and dynamic with good organisational ability;
  • Willingness to do further relevant training and improvement.
