Overview

The Packaging Manager reports directly into the Head of Innovation & Sustainability Programme & Governance and works to optimise and drive value from the packaging of products. They drive the execution of strategic initiatives, develop plans, and deliver packaging solutions in R&D that are key to support the growth of Glanbia Ireland. They will actively look to identify ways in which to leverage packaging across different portfolios to maximise product value add and achieve cost and efficiency synergies, as well as ensure packaging is in line with regulations of the market and fits into the expected customer experience within Tirlán.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and support programs to achieve Tirlán’s packaging goals including areas such as: packaging as a value add, new pack formats, enhanced product functionality, consumer experience or reason-to-buy through packaging innovation;
  • Identify ways in which packaging could be a means for cost reduction and sustainability improvements;
  • Carry out evaluations in an objective and professional manner across functions and categories to determine areas of improvement, and give advice to relevant managers, changes that can be made to improve packaging across the business;
  • Conduct research, provide reports, and maintain communication with relevant stakeholders, including external bodies such as government agencies that may provide grants or funding towards packaging directed projects;
  • Engage with all suppliers to achieve optimum sustainability across our packaging portfolio;
  • Support internal collaborations across the business to communicate performance, progress and best practices;
  • Ensure the business is complying with all applicable local and international packaging laws where we conduct business;
  • Establish metrics to monitor packaging policy adherence and performance against targets set;
  • Manage the successful delivery of projects to plan and within budget, while ensuring that the deliverables are met;
  • Leading the Packaging Hub for cross functional information sharing on packaging related projects across Tirlán and ensuring visibility of their impact on sustainability KPIs.

 

 

Key Requirements

  • Degree in Science, Engineering or related field, Packaging Diploma and project management qualification desirable;
  • 7 + Years industry experience in packaging and packaging development preferably in food, beverage or nutrition area;
  • Experience of primary and secondary packaging processes, packaging material science, packaging machinery, transportation studies and packaging development processes with knowledge of industry practices;
  • Significant evidence of R&D project management leadership, project delivery and co-ordinating cross-functional work streams;
  • Proven ability to be able to work on one’s own initiative, comfortable working in an adaptive role;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills;
  • Highly driven and motivated with proven capability to influence peers across the organisation to work together and in line with a standard approach;
  • Commercially focused;
  • Previous experience leading teams within a packaging technology role preferable;
