Data Analyst

An opportunity has arisen for a Data Analyst to join Glanbia’s Centre of Excellence for Business Intelligence and Data Analytics. This will be a permanent role based in Kilkenny and will report to Senior Data Analyst, CoE for BI and Data Analytics

 

Overview

The Data Analyst will be part of our CoE team working with Glanbia’s North American Performance Nutrition business to develop and maintain front-end reporting applications (Tableau) and the back-end data flows to those reporting applications. The candidate will contribute to building Glanbia’s data infrastructure and supporting business leadership with data driven insight, project work, management reporting and analysis for decision-making processes.

 

The Data Analyst will also play a role in Glanbia’s strategic data projects, translating complex business questions into robust, scalable and accurate data solutions.  

 

The successful candidate should be able to travel regularly in and out of the US when restrictions allow.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with business stakeholders in our North American Performance Nutrition business to translate their functional business requirements into new business applications developed in Tableau to support executive decision making.
  • Develop and maintain production ready applications in Tableau (dashboards, workbooks and visualizations) to generate insight and deliver information directly to business stakeholders.
  • Regularly present your work in progress to business stakeholders and senior data analysts in the CoE, iterating based on feedback. Work closely with senior data analysts within the CoE to design and develop appropriate solutions for new business requirements.
  • Design appropriate normalised relational database schemas for any requested business enhancements. Work closely with data engineers within the CoE to ensure these designs are developed into robust, scalable and performant data models.
  • Write and maintain ETL code (in R and/or Python) to clean and prepare data for loading into our production environment.
  • Execute ad-hoc summary data extracts from our production database for analysis by the business.

 

 

Requirements

 

Education

 

  • Primary degree and/or a Masters qualification in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science or a related quantitative discipline, or the equivalent work experience.

 

 

Experience

  • 2 years + post graduate experience in the areas of mathematics, computing, data science, analytics or visualization.
  • Knowledge and experience cleaning and preparing data for integration into production environments using R or Python.
  • Knowledge and experience with a version control system (e.g. Git).

 

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Logical thinker with a pro-active attitude, problem solving skills and demonstrable experience working with both structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Good organizational skills with experience supporting cross-functional teams.
  • Good general knowledge and understanding of database structures, SQL and experience querying databases using SQL.
  • Good understanding of data visualization and experience developing in a front end visualization application (e.g. Tableau, Qlik, Looker etc.) or using JavaScript based tools (e.g. d3).
