An exciting opportunity has become available in Glanbia Ireland’s Ingredients and Agri Category.  Reporting to the Senior Sustainability Manager - Farm, the primary functions of the Farm Sustainability Development Advisor are the provision of technical guidance towards the adoption of best practice on GI suppliers’ farms in the areas of sustainability and environmental protection.  Working in collaboration with the other GI technical teams, this will include supporting air and water quality improvements, GHG emissions reductions in addition to biodiversity and energy efficiency initiatives. This is an important role in supporting the delivery of Glanbia Ireland’s sustainability strategy called Living Proof.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • To develop and deliver the agreed business plans, including the Agricultural Sustainability Support and Advisory Programme, as part of an area based team.
  • To use a range of effective advisory methodologies including one to one support, public events and media as part of a team to achieve improvements in farmers environmental sustainability.
  • To engage with farmers located in “high pressure” catchments to identify risks arising from their farming operations to water quality.
  • Support farmers in planning for and implementing improved management of nutrients to reduce diffuse nutrient losses.
  • To support and facilitate groups of farmers in the impacted catchments.
  • To liaise with other groups which are established with the objective of enhancing water quality and community engagement.
  • To support / organise / deliver local dissemination events such as farm walks and meetings and media outputs.
  • To deliver agreed programmes, including those aimed at supporting farmers to reduce gaseous emissions, improve habitats and enhance biodiversity.
  • Assist in developing knowledge transfer initiatives and provide regular updates to senior management on key matters in this area.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

 

Key Requirements:

  • Third level degree or masters in a relevant discipline.
  • Applicants must have expert agricultural knowledge and demonstrate how they stay abreast of current best practices and research. 
  • Strong relevant technical dairy farming knowledge and experience of working with farmers.
  • He/she must be able to identify and shape the best practical applications of this knowledge in order to enhance the capabilities of farms & other enterprises.
  • He/she must act as an effective conduit to the latest thinking and methods that may give farmers a competitive edge or sustain their viability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to work alone and as a team member in a competitive working environment
  • Good communication skills in delivering technical presentations to various audiences
  • Strategic agility and a drive to achieve results

 

Desirable experience:

  • Planning of farm buildings and slurry / effluent facilities.
  • Completing fertiliser and/or nutrient management plans.
