The Dairy Processing Senior Technologist will report into the R&D Manager for Dairy Processing and will manage and deliver projects designed to achieve best in class efficiencies in dairy unit operations for Glanbia Ireland. Working within the R&D department, but with key contacts in Operations, Process Excellence and Quality this individual will execute projects focussed on new product development, process development and technical support. This position requires an experienced Technologist with in-depth dairy product knowledge, technical skills and project management experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • To assist with R&D, Operations & Process Excellence teams to develop an in-depth scientific understanding of the fundamentals of drying a variety of dairy nutritionals formulations
  • Apply detailed scientific methodology including glass transition, crystallisation kinetics, denaturation levels, particle size, powder microstructure, powder hygroscopicity etc across the production process from formulation to emulsification to concentration and drying
  • Impact of process conditions on final powder functionalities and shelf life
  • Assist with new product briefs and from this develop products that are validated at pilot and industrial scale
  • Ability to organize, execute, manage and document all pilot and plant trials in compliance with all R&D procedures
  • Drive or support plant capability measurement & manufacturing optimisation projects
  • Statistical analysis of analytical data and circulate information, highlighting any issues identified
  • Assist in the periodic review of both process control and finished product data and critically review of analytical data
  • This role will involve direct liaison with all internal departments to co-ordinate and drive the completion of all activities in the development process from brief through to full production
  • To develop and manage prioritised R&D projects resourced with GI colleagues and external ecosystem providers, and with key third party providers
  • Demonstrate project management and exhibit aptitude for planning and delivering projects to completion using the GI Project management systems

Key Requirements:

  • MSc Food Science/ Food Engineering based qualification or equivalent
  • Preferred 5+ year’s relevant technical and/or operational experience in a value-added dairy or related high-end nutrition industry
  • Dairy processing experience in theory and practice of formulation, emulsification, concentration and drying
  • Managing internal technical projects and external suppliers to deliver projects on time, in scope and in budget Technology transfer understanding an advantage
