SAP Ariba IT Solution Owner


At Glanbia Business Services (GBS), the Global IT and Finance Shared Services division of Glanbia plc. we currently have an opportunity for an experienced SAP Ariba professional to join our team in the role of SAP Ariba IT Solution Owner. This is a permanent position, based in Citywest, Dublin 24 and will report to the Senior Manager, SCM Centre of Excellence.



Glanbia have recently implemented the SAP Ariba cloud-based procurement solution integrated to our back-end SAP ERP system, and are working through a global deployment and continuous improvement programme.

The SAP Ariba solution scope as currently implemented includes:

  • eSourcing and Contract management for direct (i.e. stocked) materials
  • Purchase to Order (P2O) PO and Invoice automation for indirect (i.e. non-stocked) materials and services
  • Catalogue management for non-stock items and services purchased on P2O 
  • Supplier Information and Performance Management (SIPM) for direct materials
  • Supplier enablement via Ariba Network for invoice automation
  • Standard SAP Ariba integration between SAP Ariba and core SAP transaction system


Key Deliverables of the role:

Ariba product expertise and solutioning:


  • Ownership of the Glanbia IT systems solution and capabilities for the Ariba platform, providing leadership on solution roadmaps, capabilities and deployment strategies
  • Recommend best practice processes and solutions, based on knowledge of current and emerging capabilities in the SAP Ariba solution area
  • Management of service delivery relationship with SAP Ariba, including maximisation of Best Practice Centre services, and ensuring clarity on relevant roadmap items – co-orginating consulting engagements where required
  • Evaluate business requirements, and, working with the business and technical teams, propose SAP Ariba functional design solutions, and co-ordinate technical implementation
  • Work with Group and Business Unit Purchasing managers to champion and implement best-practice SAP Ariba Sourcing Vendor management and P2P processes, and to promote the optimum utilisation of the Ariba platform in line with Glanbia’s procurement strategy
  • Benefits Realisation – working in collaboration with Group Purchasing and Shared Services teams to refine and drive relevant actions
  • Chairing periodic Glanbia internal Ariba Power User Forum meetings to review optional functionalities, agree deployment plans, and to facilitate and drive share learnings across the Glanbia Power User community
  • Coordinating training and up-skilling of the internal Glanbia IT team on the Ariba Solution platform – including definition of training plans and co-ordination of required training activities


Ariba IT project management and service delivery co-ordination:

  • Agree SAP Ariba programme priorities with the SCM COE Manager, Glanbia Ariba Solution Group and relevant Group Purchasing process owners, and manage & mentor the internal GBS IT team in the delivery of this programme, including:
    1. Management of monthly software releases, and license compliance,
    2. Support tickets – including process management and escalations to SAP Ariba
    3. Ariba Change request service
    4. SAP Ariba internal documentation repository maintenance
    5. IT tasks to support the deployment programme
  • Manage periodic issues calls with business stakeholders, including issue clarification, prioritisation, and co-ordination of resolution activities
  • Sit on EMEA and US Ariba Deployment Steering Groups and act as co-ordination point between Procurement and SSC Deployment team, and IT
  • Project manage the Integration of selected Suppliers to Glanbia, from an IT point of view
  • Project manage agreed  initiatives to implement new functionality – validating high level design against platform capabilities, co-ordinating planning, delivery, budgets and bringing together Ariba, Business and IT technical streams – including related status reporting – e.g.
    1. P2O and Invoice automation for direct (stocked ) materials
    2. Guided Buying
    3. Spot Buying
    4. SIPM to SLP upgrade etc.



  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Business / Computer sciences or equivalent


Skills & experience

  • Minimum 5 year’s deep practical solution and implementation experience in the SAP Ariba solution platform together with:  
  • Significant demonstrable experience of co-ordinating e-procurement implementation projects including solution design, project co-ordination and management of senior stakeholders
  • Proven Ariba and e-procurement solutioning skills, successfully mapping business requirements to high performing systems and process solutions
  • In-depth understanding of procurement processes, accounts payable and general finance/business best practices and interdependencies
  • Experience of service delivery and stakeholder engagement and management of e-procurement solution scenario
  • Demonstrable complex problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • History of participating in P2P process improvement by identifying opportunities, proposing solutions and driving change
