VAT Manager

 

An opportunity has arisen for a VAT Manager with Glanbia Business Services.  This is a permanent position based in our Kilkenny office with a requirement travel to our offices in Dublin and Dungarvan to engage with the tax team as well as travel internationally to engage with the business.  The role will report to the Shared Service Centre, Group VAT Manager who has overall responsibility for VAT in the Glanbia Group.

 

Overview 

The candidate will be responsible for the VAT function of the Glanbia Group with a focus on all locations outside North America. This will involve ensuring that declarations are submitted on time and that payments are made/refunds received in a timely manner on occasion directly and through a team. Increasingly this role will involve providing strategic VAT advice to the Group both for large-scale projects driven by restructuring, business integrations following M&A activity as well as deploying analytics to embed a risk management strategy to highlight risk areas for follow up by self and the team. The role with also have responsibility for business development of new service offerings with the Business Units in conjunction with the Group Tax Manager. It will also involve influencing senior stakeholders internally in our Business Units and Group Tax as well as key external parties such as multi-jurisdictional Tax Authorities and external Advisors.

 

Key Elements of the Role

  • Manage the VAT compliance for the Glanbia Group across a growing number of countries, currently 22.
  • Provide VAT advice to the Group to ensure it remain VAT compliant, to include direct involvement in various VAT projects driven largely by restructuring and M&A activity.
  • Develop a risk management approach in conjunction with the Group VAT Manager and the team giving the changing and evolving tax landscape across the various tax jurisdictions including the deployment of technology and analytics for effectiveness.
  • Lead the business development activity of the SSC in conjunction with the Group VAT Manager in the identification and offering of new services to the Business Units.
  • Be the point of contact for any VAT Audits and manage these effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with tax system set-up activity, testing and tax determination for new products and markets.
  • Provide guidance and support to a team of tax-qualified individuals, lead the team in the absence of the Group VAT Manager and work with the cross functional Senior Shared Service Centre Management Team.

 

Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelors’ degree in Finance/Accounting/Business/Legal
  • I.T.I. tax qualified
  • Strong technical skills and detailed knowledge of Irish and European VAT legislation with some experience in ASPAC legislation, an advantage
  • Experience in managing a VAT compliance function
  • Experience in advising on VAT and Indirect Tax matters
  • Experience in the management of professionally qualified individuals
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a professional Tax/VAT environment
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in a simple and comprehensive way to colleagues without a tax technical background
  • Ability to adapt to changing task priorities and work situations
  • Drive in relation to service delivery with strong commercial awareness
  • Effective research, verbal and written communication skills and customer service skills
  • Drive and initiative with strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management skills with experience of meeting deadlines and prioritisation
