The opportunity where you will make an impact:


As a Continuous / Process Improvement Engineer, you will be based in our UK manufacturing plant in Middlesbrough and report into the Plant Manager. The main function of the job is to effectively support the manufacturing facility at GPN in the development and optimisation of production processes resulting in demonstrable improvements in performance across Safety, Quality and Efficiency/Cost.


  • Specifically you will focus on the identification of process improvement opportunities presented by in inventory control, supporting capital projects, in New Product Development and on-going Operational performance reviews. You will formulate action plans based on measurement and analysis, implementation of change and the embedding of the necessary controls to ensure performance is maintained.
  • You will support the Operations team to identify skill gaps in existing manufacturing teams with the Production Supervisor to ensure training offered leads to a positive effect on performance. You will form and lead Action Teams from cross functional departments to resolve production issues and optimise Performance whilst encouraging input and suggestions from all staff to improve. You will transfer detailed product and process knowledge to key staff during the execution of project and improvement activities.
  • Good quality communications at the right time will ensure the highest standards of Teamwork from all your colleagues within the business and make certain we are all pulling together in the right direction. Support Daily Operations and Production Line reviews to engage teams to deliver improvement and communicate performance status & identified actions to wider teams.
  • Planning, Analysis & Control - you must maintain a structured approach to the delivery of the site strategy plan and the business targets. You must lead and increase the capability of site Teams in problem solving to a standardised approach to identify root cause and corrective & preventative action plans. You will monitor the production performance and identify opportunities & recommendations to drive improvement as well as report the plant progress against these plans.
  • You will facilitate factory trials to support the introduction of new products, processes or equipment and work with matrix teams to deliver factory fit solutions.
  • Cost & Efficiencies : Achieving required output with minimum wasted effort, time and expense; meet standards consistently to achieve the cost base to continue our growth and drive world class Performance, whilst always striving to Find a Better Way.
  • Collaborate with the wider Product Supply functions to support the delivery of tasks and targets to impact site strategies and goals. Specifically work with the Continuous Improvement Manager to drive our Gartner assisted business maturity improvement model and discrete CI programs to impact performance / efficiency improvements.

What you will bring to GPN:

  • Previous food industry experience preferred 
  • Lean or 6 Sigma Qualifications (Green Belt preferred)
  • A Degree or HND standard of education ideally in a Food or manufacturing related discipline
  • Advanced Food Hygiene and Health & Safety
  • HACCP Certification
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook) and SAP if possible
  • Experience of Manufacturing Systems to impact KPIs
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Coaching skills
