Senior Quality Coordinator

Reporting directly to the Quality Manager, the role is a key position within the Quality Team. The role is based primarily within the manufacturing site and will be factory and office based. Occasional customer or supplier visits will be required. The role is customer facing with responsibility for both internal and external customers. Position is a people supervisor responsible for a team of five.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure all products meet the requirements of the internal & customer specification and are produced in line with the requirements of the Quality Management System. This will be ensured through completion of positive release protocols following both internal & external testing requirements
  • Ensure all relevant BRC, customer and regulatory standards are met and maintained as specified by the QA Manager and the Quality Management System.
  • Ensure product quality by ensuring Raw Materials & products are tested versus the sample plan and meet both specification and customer requirement.
  • Ensure product reference samples are maintained
  • Ensure shelf life testing of finished products is carried out as required
  • Produce Finished Goods Certificate of Analysis / Conformance as required by customer needs
  • Member of the HACCP team, assisting in developing, validating, implementing and updating the HACCP study
  • Ensure all safety and quality requirements are complied with at all times
  • Develop, maintain and report on the external microbiological & chemical testing programs. Maintain the validity and accuracy of all testing methods and equipment.
  • Develop, maintain and report on the internal chemical & physical parameters analysis and testing programs.
  • Develop, conduct & report on environmental micro swabbing and gluten swabbing programs
  • Ensure and maintain the appropriate storage of both samples and quality records to provide quick access and ease of identification in the case of any investigation or enquiry. Ensure retained samples are effectively rotated
  • Manage and control Out Of Specification goods and raw materials and liaise with Operations teams to meet quality and food safety requirements whilst endeavouring to meet production plans
  • Manage & control Finished Product write offs
  • Ensure you are conversant with the testing methods and techniques of water activity/ calibrations/ weight data/ probe calibration/ chemical concentrations, ensuring an appropriate level of assurance and a strong due diligence defence
  • Verification of powders through pre-production tasting where appropriate in conjunction with Operations teams.
  • Ensure collection of samples for daily taste panels. Ensure attendance with documented records retained
  • Liaise with Operations management and production personnel to ensure good manufacturing practices are followed and that good standards of hygiene and housekeeping are maintained
  • Recording and reporting of any non-conformances identified with lab. Implement corrective actions as required and completion of reports
  • Investigate as appropriate any customer complaints as required by the QA Manager
  • Highlight any material quality issues to the Operations and Supplier Quality Assurance Teams to ensure appropriate action is taken.
  • Ensure a strong and open working relationship is maintained with the Operations, Quality Assurance and Supplier Quality Assurance Teams to be confident of high standards of communication to reduce the likelihood of product safety or quality failures.
  • Actively champion quality by leading and participating in quality initiatives that can be acted upon by the site teams to deliver higher levels of quality and consistency.
  • Drive to exceed the business Product Safety and Quality targets as communicated by the QA Manager.
  • Participate in training and briefings as required, relating to food safety and quality issues.
  • Carry out investigations and projects as directed by the QA Manager.
  • Collect and maintain Quality KPI records in your area of responsibility
  • Participate in BRC/Customer audits as required.
  • Responsible for the completion of customer specifications using online portals
  • Maintain compliance with customer requirements ensuring that relevant customer codes of practice are reviewed and presented to the site team
  • Supply internal and external customers information to aid successful exporting of finished goods
  • Ensure records are maintained for the site certifications including Rainforest Alliance, RSPO, BRCGS, Informed Sport
  • Complete and maintain technical SOP’s Lead annual reviews of all department SOPs and Risk Assessments
  • Lead the department training program, by delivering key technical training on the factory floor and through development of a detailed department skills matrix.
  • Key customer contact with regards to quality enquiries and complaints.
  • Responsible for leading quality investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and closed out.
  • Working with the wider site and technical team ensure all relevant KPIs are completed on time.
  • Represent the technical team at key meetings ensuing all actions are feedback and followed through to completion.
  • Become an active part in the site internal audit program, by completing quality management system and practical factory environmental audits.
  • Liaise with R&D during trials and product launches to ensure new raw materials specifications and supplier approvals are available to required standard as required. Ensure compliance with customer codes of practice.

 

Skills & experience:

  • Previous food industry experience within a quality or technical function essential.
  • A Degree or HND standard of education in a relevant discipline
  • Level 3 or above in Food Hygiene.
  • HACCP qualification
  • Training Qualification or Experience in delivering training
  • TACCP / VACCP experience
  • Basic microbiology and chemistry experience
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook) is essential and SAP experience would be a distinct advantage
  • Experience of online portals such as Laboratory Submission and Management QADEX and Retailer Specification Management Systems would be beneficial.
  • The ability to work in a fast moving rapidly changing business is essential.
  • Highly organised with ability to prioritise workload
  • Build strong relationships with customers both internal and external to the site
