Principal purpose of the job

 

To ensure swift resolution of any Plant breakdowns on the Middlesbrough Site. To assist the Engineering Manager in the completion of the Site PPM Schedule on a daily, weekly and annual basis. To provide PLC support for the site and ensure all site PLC systems are backed up regularly.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

Health, Safety & Welfare

 

Nothing is so important that it can’t be done safely; the welfare of your colleagues is paramount and you must promote and support a safe working environment and foster a culture of “safety first”.

 

  • Ensure the working environment, equipment, plant and people meet with legislative and internal health and safety standards at all times.
  • Where hazards are identified and risk levels are deemed unacceptable immediate action must be taken by you to remove the hazard or where this is not possible reduce the risk to acceptable levels.
  • Ensure safe systems of work, standard operating procedures and health safety requirements as documented under the GPN (Middlesbrough) Health, Safety and Welfare Manual are followed at all times.  Where practices have moved on or where improvements are possible, report these to the Operations Manager or EHS Manager in good time for consideration.
  • Ensure the requirements of the GPN (Middlesbrough) PTW system are implemented and controlled as appropriate.
  • Support and drive the business accident prevention initiatives through the reporting of potential accidents through the Near Miss Reporting tool by you and your team.

 

Food Safety & legality

 

Maintaining the integrity of our products and therefore the business itself is an absolute.  You must ensure this is always the case as we never knowingly compromise product safety.

 

  • Be certain that maintenance and breakdown works meet both GMP and HACCP requirements at all times.
  • Maintain the required high standard of housekeeping and GMP across the site at all times.

  • Ensure all equipment and plant is maintained to a level that allows the Production of products that meet the requirements of the internal specifications and are produced in line with the Quality Management System. 
  • Support the Technical team in ensuring all Fabrication requirements as highlighted via external audits, pest control visits and internal processes are completed in good time and to the required standards.
  • Ensure a strong and open working relationship is maintained with the Technical Department to be confident of high standards and the reduction in the likelihood of product safety or quality failures.

 

People / Structure / Team Development

 

You must Develop the Best in your people to ensure our success in achieving customer, business and individual targets, whilst building a Sense of Fun in to what we do.

  • Demonstrate a team approach with regard to maintenance and hygiene of equipment and support of production operators.
  • Provide support to the team during breaks and absences and work together to ensure completion of their duties.
  • Work with other functions as part of the manufacturing team to ensure efficient running of the equipment and carry out prioritized work as agreed.
  • Ensure the Workshop 5S Score Sheet and Handover Sheet are completed on a Weekly / Daily basis and any repeated non-conformances escalated to the Engineering Manager

 

Communication

 

Good quality communications at the right time will ensure the highest standards of Teamwork from all your colleagues within the business and make certain we are all pulling together in the right   direction.

 

  • Attend and represent the team at the key site meetings ensuring you are prepared to give factual feedback on your team’s performance and how you are working with other functions to meet production and site targets.
  • Ensure that at the end of every Shift a Full and Complete Record of all your activities are entered onto the Maintenance System and that the Production Teams, Maintenance Management Team and the following Shift Engineering Team have all the relevant information to hand to allow both the safety of the Site, continued Production and possible problems to be continued and resolved without problem.

 

Planning & Control

 

You must maintain a structured approach to the delivery of the production plan and the business targets as second chances to get it right are rare.

 

  • Effective preparation to meet the Maintenance plan and wherever possible effectively 'early warn' against future problems and issues whilst identifying solutions.
  • Deputise for the Engineering Manager at the  planning meeting to communicate opportunities in the plan to maximise efficiencies and reduce planned changeovers and unplanned events.
  • Provide Engineering Support for customer visits and off site meetings as appropriate.
  • Ensure all contractors are managed in line with the GPN Middlesbrough Policy and that their activities are managed and conducted in a way that will not put themselves, GPN Employees or GPN products at risk.
  • Assist where applicable in the completion of GPN Capital Plan assisting in the tight control of budgets and timelines.

 

Cost & Efficiencies

 

Achieving required output with minimum wasted effort, time and expense; meet standards consistently to achieve the cost base to continue our growth and drive world class Performance, whilst always striving to Find a Better Way.

 

  • Ensure effective cost control through best use of all resources including spare parts, consumables, internal labour and external support to minimise all wastes and maximise efficiency.
  • Maintain spares holding at levels that are adequate to support operations by the timely reporting of parts used during the shift
  • Stringent adherence to all systems & procedures.  Early identification of ineffective procedures with proposed solutions.  Ensure all CMMS inputs and reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Actively promote improvement activities to increase the Overall Equipment Efficiency of the production  lines.  Attend the Hr / Hr and Root Cause Meetings, ensuring actions on efficiency opportunities are acted upon and that problem solving activities are committed to in a co-ordinated response that delivers based on best return for the business first.
  • To provide continuous improvement put forward project suggestions for process and cost improvements, as well as generating ideas of your own. 

 

Environment

 

Your role is primarily based At GPN Middlesbrough, which is a typical modern food manufacturing    environment. Primarily based on the shop floor in all production areas and engineering workshop. Also work may involve working outside or on roof area, stairwells, ducts, plant rooms, office areas and warehouse.

May have to work in warm, humid, cold or wet environments for short periods of time.

May have to work exposed to weather occasionally using suitable protective equipment/PPE.

You may be required to work in other areas of the business from time to time.

 

Requirements

 

Qualifications and job skills required

 

Previous food processing industry experience highly desirable 

Electrical and/or mechanical qualifications/time served apprenticeship.

2 Years’ experience of working in an automated production environment.

A good standard of both written and oral English

Basic Food Hygiene

Data and analytical skills

Computer literate. (word/excel/windows based packages)

Desirable skills :- PLC’s, pneumatics, hydraulics, temperature control, instrumentation, welding.
