Reporting to the Head of Operations, Agribusiness, this role is accountable for Environmental, Sustainability and Health and Safety standards, policies and programs in the Agribusiness Operations Category. Responsibility includes ensuring execution of Glanbia Ireland Environmental & Sustainability strategy and Health & Safety strategy, compliance to Regulatory requirements, co-ordinating EHS representatives at site level, tracking performance and leading continuous improvement initiatives. Development and implementation of a Zero Harm culture across the plants together with leading implementation of supporting programs is also key to the role.

Scope of responsibility for the role is primarily across 3 manufacturing sites: Feed Mills in Portlaoise & Clonroche and the Food Mill, Portlaoise, but this position will also have interaction with and support the Central Compliance function and with be involved with stakeholder groups across the wider GI Operations & Supply Chain team.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage and lead a culture of Zero Harm across the plants and ensure a management led approach with a culture of continuous improvement and sharing and replication of best practices across the sites.
  • Define and align the H&S standards, programme and practices across the three Agribusiness sites that will reduce risk to our employees, contractors, suppliers and the Public.
  • Provide a Training Strategy around Induction, Refresher and Manual Handling Training as required. Conduct a Training Needs Analysis and develop and deploy a training program across the sites that will assist in improving H&S culture and overall accident rate reduction.
  • Develop and manage a program of task based risk assessments in conjunction with site H&S co-ordinators to ensure key risks are identified and work with the Operations Management team to agree and manage prioritised programmes to reduce such risks.
  • Develop H&S KPIs and track trends for common causes of incidents across sites and support site management and EHS representatives to develop corrective action and improvement programs.
  • Lead the deployment of GI Health & Safety Strategy across the sites ensuring compliance with same.
  • Maintain ISO 14001 and 50001 certification across the 3 sites and  drive continuous improvement with  related environmental and sustainability initiatives
  • Lead the  Sustainability strategy for the sites working  in conjunction with  site management and Process Engineers to reduce resource usage and waste across the sites
  • Lead communication with regulatory agencies where required– EPA and HSA
  • Co-ordinate Intelex adoption and implementation across sites.
  • Co-ordinate EHS Internal audit programs.
  • Drive site compliance with environmental standards, management systems and manage the implementation of environmental policies and procedures in conjunction with the site management teams.
  • Manage execution of environmental programmes and initiatives.
  • Manage environmental auditing to assure site compliance standards
  • Report & manage environmental metrics and KPIs, work collaboratively with Plant personnel to drive improvements in environmentally conscious performance, promote environmental policy to maximise performance against KPIs.
  • Support training on site in line with environmental requirements.

     

     

Key Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience at EH&S Manager level within an FMCG manufacturing environment, ideally food manufacturing.
  • Proven success and experience of implementing safety systems & programmes
  • Experience in leading and carrying out Risk Assessment
  • Knowledge of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 systems
  • Ability to deliver training modules to all levels of the Organisation
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
