Job Summary

  • Directs and coordinates site production and packaging. Liaisons with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Planning, and Research to ensure orders are manufactured on time and in a safe and efficient manner.  Ensures effective sanitation regime and must be knowledgeable in HACCP, pest control, cleaning, and housekeeping practices. 


Essential Functions

  • Promote a behavior based safety culture with a goal of creating a zero risk workplace
  • Responsible for promoting continuous improvement while utilizing our GPS process and principles to drive a zero loss environment
  • Maintain high quality standards and zero error tolerance by adhering to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Member of the HACCP team and participates in food safety meetings
  • Food safety responsibilities include following designations; receiving, storing, packaging, and allergen control procedures.  Responsible for effective housekeeping practices and sanitation adherence.
  • Responsible for developing production budget and monitoring variance to budget.
  • Responsible for proper documentation, labeling, and packaging controls.
  • Create and maintain systems to minimize product loss and packaging material waste.
  • Create and maintain programs designed to motivate and engage employees.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations. 
  • Establishes production priorities and sequences to optimize manufacturing process.
  • Coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and assists in resolving operational problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of manufacturing department function. Directly manages supervisory and non-supervisory employees.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Implements standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.


Additional Functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Fill in as Plant Manager when required.
  • Ensure after hours response in the event of plant outage and emergencies.




Qualification & Experience Requirements

Education, Training:

  • College degree required; bachelor’s or higher in engineering, operational management or other related fields.
  • Extensive related experience allowed in lieu of college degree; high school diploma or GED required

Experience Required:

  • 5+ years manufacturing management experience required, preferably in a food, nutraceutical, or pharmaceutical company.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing processes (or managing a Lean environment) a plus
  • Experience with GPS, Six Sigma, and TPM operational philosophies a plus
  • Experience as Sanitation Supervisor a plus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while remaining productive at all times
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Independent, proactive, detail oriented, dependable, organized and able to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Must be results focused and oriented toward accomplishment of team goals
  • Strong mechanical aptitude proven by past experience.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and possess team-based problem solving skills.
  • Proven ability choosing appropriate course of action while considering related costs and benefits
  • Ability to handle multiple, rapidly changing and conflicting priorities
  • Must have demonstrably strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), to include speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include overtime and weekends when needed
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of personnel with the utmost professionalism
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Evenly enforces all safety rules and philosophies.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
  • Ability to work with amino acids, vitamins and fine chemicals in powder and liquid form

Language, Computer &   Numeracy:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Physical Demands

  • Regularly involves talking or listening, standing and walking, and the use of hands and fingers.
  • Frequently involves sitting, and reaching with hands and arms
  • Occasionally involves crouching, stooping, kneeling and/or climbing or balancing.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Involves moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.
  • Should be able to identify and distinguish colors, see clearly at 20 inches or closer and 20 feet or more, observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, judge distances and spatial relationships, and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.


Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to loud noise levels (i.e. manufacturing equipment).
  • May be exposed to humidity, intense heat, and fumes and toxic chemicals.
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock.


Travel Requirements

  • Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
