Sanitation Associate

Job Summary

Perform all functions related to sanitation, GMP/HACCP conformance, pest prevention and plant appearance.

Essential Functions

  • Operate all equipment that is related to sanitation ie: brooms, vaccuums, shovels, steam cleaner.
  • Verify that all paperwork associated with sanitation is complete and up to date.
  • Assist the production operators in sanitation duties as required.
  • Ensure that all refuse receptacles are emptied daily.
  • Ensure that work areas are kept clean and free of debris and foreign material.
  • Have a basic understanding of sanitation equipment functions, standard operating procedures and job safety analysis.
  • Communicate with plant personnel from other departments on equipment troubleshooting and corrective actions.
  • Communicate with operators from other shifts.
  • Provide on-the-job training for newly hired employees.
  • Complete daily sanitation logs and shift reports including all HACCP and GMP forms.
  • All employees have the responsibility to report food safety problems to their supervisor or someone with authority to initiate action.
  • All employees shall identify any risk of intentional harm to the facility, personnel or products.  All employees have the responsibility to report unauthorized persons to their Supervisor or a Manager who will challenge the individual and/or escort them from the site.


Additional Functions

  • Liaison with other plant personnel to ensure that the sanitation plan is being followed.
  • May be rquired to assist other plant personnel in daily duties (i.e. maintenance, warehouse).
  • Sanitation Operators report to the Sanitation Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



  • Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills are required.
  • Ability to follow and execute a plan.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing processes, procedures and equipment relating to sanitation.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources

Physical Demands

  • Regularly involves talking or listening, sitting, and the use of hands and fingers.
  • Frequently involves reaching with hands and arms, standing and walking.
  • Occasionally involves crouching, stooping, kneeling and/or climbing or balancing.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Physical Requirements

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, and work with the fingers.
  • Involves moderate physical activity (i.e. climbing stairs).


Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels (i.e. production equipment, pneumatic blowers).
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts and occasionally in areas of loud manufacturing noise.
