MWC will be opening a state-of-the-art cheese and whey production facility in St. Johns, MI. MWC is a joint venture between Glanbia Nutritionals, Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Select Milk Producers Inc. (Select).


Job Summary

Source vendors and manage all shipments from cheese production facilities with guidelines of budgeted freight spend. Identify and accomplish cost savings related to manage lanes.


Essential Functions

  • Source vendors to provide transportation needs within the guidelines of the corporate freight spend.
  • Responsible for scheduling a high volume of shipments daily, in an effective manner.
  • Work closely with Customer service, and Warehouses to manage orders to meet their requirements
  • Work closely with export specialists to efficiently service export orders to trans loading facilities, inland ports, etc.
  • Hold freight companies accountable for agreed to service and cost expectations
  • Manage product issues and destination changes in a cost-effective and prompt manner
  • Maintain relationships with transportation vendors and use these relationships to improve transportation effectiveness
  • Perform data analysis and reports weekly/monthly to illustrate trends or opportunities for improvement
  • Review with carrier their performance report for on-time pickup and delivery scores
  • Utilize SAP for all aspects of load scheduling and load completion
  • Manager the SAP freight purchase order system through the SAP purchase order completion
  • Track and trace all active shipments, and promptly address all internal and external issues
  • Ensure the freight accrual reporting is current and accurate for your managed shipments
  • Maintain logistics master data in an accurate and timely manner
  • Provide backup and support to team members in the transportation planning function as needed
  • Stay current with transportation industry (local, national and international) trends, issues, government policies, etc.
  • Utilizes GPS processes, driving zero losses and upholds the culture of MWC non-negotiables.
  • Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health  Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
  • Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or a minimum of five years transportation planning experience (managing $5+ million freight spend); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to provide direction to suppliers and hold the suppliers accountable for performance.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from internal and external customers and other third parties, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Firm Ability Negotiate rates with vendors and recommend vendors for contracts.
  • Self-directed and able to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Intermediate MS Excel Functionality and reporting skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly involves, talking or listening, sitting, and the use of hands and fingers.

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, and work with the fingers.
  • Involves light to moderate physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.


Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to high noise levels (i.e. office equipment/production equipment).
  • May be exposed to environments where chemicals and chemical related dusts, fumes, mists are being used and/or emitted.  PPE will be provided as necessary.
  • May be exposed to heat and/or cold, including outdoor environment.


Travel Requirements

    • Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
