MWC is a state of the art cheese and whey production facility in St. Johns, MI. MWC is a joint venture between Glanbia Nutritionals, Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Select Milk Producers Inc.



Directs, administers and coordinates the activities of the organization in support of policies, goals, and objectives established by the chief executive officer and the Board of Directors by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers.



  • Responsible for cheese and whey production so that all aspects of operational budget are achieved i.e. throughput, yield, quality, customer requirements, cost control, safety and profitability.
  • Coordinate alignment of business and production plans for operations.
  • Analyze current trends, future trends, and needs to assess functional responsibilities, competitive strengths and vulnerabilities.
  • Leads and sets the tone for the development, implementation and living of the Glanbia values and culture.
  • Set a positive and confident leaders hip example to senior and junior leadership teams.
  • Optimize production operations through the startegic management of personnel, operational and mechanical resources.
  • Identify on-going opportunities for improvement that enables the facility to develop to its optimum profit potential and decrease the cost of production for Cheese, Whey and Warehousing.
  • Responsible for the management, preventative maintenance, repair and upkeep of assets and operational resources throughout the plant. 
  • Oversee engineering and capex project spend. 
  • Capable to lead strategic planning by working with GN Sales to meet sales volume by monitoring and managing performance to plan through staffing, spend and operational investment.
  • Lead and report on the monthly budget costs and variance reports to address performance and level of operation margin.
  • Responsibility for leadership, daily operations and AM pillars. 
  • Utilizes GPS processes, driving zero losses and upholds the culture of Southwest Cheese non-negotiables.
  • Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health  Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
  • Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four years related experience in Dairy Science or related field.  Five to seven years of related production experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and delegate assignments to others.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Demonstrated use of intermediate computer operations (basic programming in 3rd and 4th generation languages, relational databases, and operating systems) and intermediate software packages, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety Department.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill


Physical Demands

  • Regularly involves sitting, talking or listening and the use of hands and fingers.
  • Frequently standing and walking.
  • Occasionally involves reaching with hands and arms.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Involves sedentary physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a primarily administrative nature.



  • Exposure to moderate noise levels (i.e. office equipment or light traffic).
  • Exposure to risk of electrical shock, toxic fumes and extreme heat.



  • Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
