MWC is a state of the art cheese and whey production facility in St. Johns, MI. MWC is a joint venture between Glanbia Nutritionals, Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Select Milk Producers Inc. (Select).
Job Summary
Performs work involved in the operation, maintenance, and analysis of the Waste Water Treatment Plant in accordance with discharge requirements. A WWTP operator also performs other environmental duties as needed.
Essential Functions
- Must diligently attend monthly safety meetings and quarterly quality meetings. Attends “Morning Meeting” in the absence of the Team Leader.
- Perform safety audits of WWTP.
- Take accurate readings from flow meters and other analytical equipment daily. Must also legibly log this data.
- Collect samples daily, reset samplers, and perform all lab analysis of samples accurately when assigned to the lab.
- Accurately transpose all data from tests into the computer and e-mail the daily zones report in a timely manner.
- Aids Team Leader in troubleshooting most WWTP maintenance issues. Notify Team Leader of any significant equipment issues which you are unable to rectify yourself.
- Must safely run the Belt Press when assigned to that piece of equipment.
- Must learn and safely run new equipment when necessary.
- Collect and send off Final Effluent samples for analysis weekly and Leak Detect samples quarterly.
- Perform biogas testing.
- Responsible for the day to day WWTP operation including monitoring equipment and KPI’s
- Monitor alarms and communicating to management for the WWTP
- Assist in winterizing the WWTP each year.
- Safely unload incoming chemicals used for the operation of the WWTP.
- Learn and assist with other environmental requirements, including performing air emission visual assessments and waste oil area audits.
- Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)
- Collect weekly, monthly and quarterly samples to ship for analysis by an outside lab. Must fill out a Chain of Custody for those samples correctly.
- Perform Safety audits of WWTP.
- Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
- Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)

Qualifications
- 1 to 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Have or be able to obtain A-1a Operator Certification (Hydrostatic Testing), A-1i Stormwater Certification Industrial, Category 3 WWTP Operator License, Air Permit Recordkeeping Requirements, Industrial Storm Water Operator License, Opacity Training, DOT and RCRA Waste Manifests and Classification
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiply projects simultaneously and delegate assignments to others.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Typical Environmental Conditions
- May be exposed to loud noise levels (i.e., manufacturing equipment).
- May be exposed to humidity, intense heat, and areas with possible air contamination, fumes, and toxic chemicals.
- May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with a risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock.
Travel Requirements
- Minimal travel limited within the local area.
