Inventory Control Specialist

  • Plans and schedules manufacturing operations in the West Haven, CT and Taylorville, IL plants for efficient production to ensure on time delivery of customer orders.




  • Plans, prepares and issues daily, weekly, and master production schedules.
  • Reports to the supervisor on daily activity and any disruptions to the daily schedule.
  • Schedules equipment use and routing and confirms material supply and demands.
  • Reviews Sales Orders for the production of finished goods based on a master production schedule and inventory use requirements for all schedules (production, constraints, materials, shipping, etc.).
  • Prepares and presents the daily Order Review meeting and reports with suggestions for manufacturing dates and production routing.
  • Analyzes all new sales orders for product availability, providing accurate ship dates to internal    Customer Service team within 24 hours when possible.
  • Uses MRP/ERP Software, and Scheduling Software, to track and manage all activities required for scheduling production and managing inventories for fulfillment of customer sales orders and internal needs.
  • Effectively communicates with customer service to gain answers to questions regarding shipments, for example: approval for complete lot shipment.  
  • Accurately allocates materials to sales orders according to specific customer requirements, FIFO and current departmental and company initiatives.
  • Allocates rework and partial lots to production orders when necessary, ensuring inventory has minimum obsolescence.
  • Reserves materials from production orders to ensure adequate inventory for orders.
  • Runs, interprets and effectively act’s upon MRP information.
  • Schedules indicated minimum and maximum inventory levels for WIP and finished goods, maximizing inventory turnover.  
  • Executes assigned plan designed to reduce and or eliminate partials, rework and expired materials. 
  • Allocates finished goods when available 10 days in advance of shipments.
  • Investigates inventory discrepancies with cycle counter and recommends corrective action to prevent future errors.
  • Manages tracking of rework material and responsible to assure rework is scheduled appropriately.
  • Follows-up as required with all teams to expedite flow of materials and documents to meet Production schedules.
  • Executes action plan for the processing of hold product.
  • Requests batch sheets as necessary from R&D for new, rework, reprocessed, repacked product, ensures they are received in time to meet manufacturing date.  Follows up as necessary.
  • Works with the Purchasing Department personnel to review and analyze raw material requirements to support customer shipping order request dates and schedules.
  • Manages the scheduling and inventory minimum and maximum levels of pre-blends and WIP for in-house requirements.
  • Works closely with the Customer Service Department to coordinate consignment material deliveries and adjusts scheduling to accommodate.
  • Works with the Warehouse Managers to help reconcile delivery and shipments of consignment materials.
  • Interacts daily with Sales, Document Control, Purchasing, Operations, and requires a strong focus on customer service.
  • Interacts with any number of departments on a daily basis to resolve issues regarding manufacturing, raw material needs, WIP demands, R&D needs, Customer requirements or any other information needed to satisfy the customer expectations.
  • Responsible for opening and maintaining production orders and their accuracy of manufacturing dates, quantities, designated machine and routings.
  • Schedules inventory for repackaging to meet delivery requirements.
  • Consolidates old inventory and new inventory, verifies inventory accuracy.
  • Maintains and deletes unused or un-kitted batch tickets in MRP/ERP System, taking into consideration raw material postings and return of goods to inventory before closing. Coordinate these efforts with Warehouse Manager and Purchasing.




  • This position will back up some or all of the duties of the Senior Materials Control Manager.




  • Minimum experience - 3-5 years as a management assistant, production assistant, production supervisor with scheduling duties or related work in a manufacturing facility.
  • Preferred experience – 5-7 years of experience with increased responsibility up to and including production supervisor or production assistant supervisor in a fast paced food processing manufacturing facility with scheduling responsibility.
  • MRP/ERP production scheduling software experience and MS Office proficiency is required.
  • Minimum education: Diploma or GED from an accredited high school or technical school.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English.
  • Experience using NAV software is a plus.





  • Proficient user of computer programs including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, internet and email.            
  • Computer literate with MRP/ERP Batch Processing experience at a high level of accuracy.
  • Able to multi task, prioritize tasks, and bring tasks to closure.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Fine manual motor dexterity required to complete forms and other paperwork.
  • Heavy typing and data entry using a standard keyboard throughout the day.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, reach, bend and walk about the building.
  • Regularly required to sit at a desk and perform work.
  • Moderate to sometimes heavy physical effort required.


  • Must be able to walk about the building and go up and down a standard flight of stairs as needed throughout the day.
  • May be exposed to allergens while on the production floor.
