Job Summary

The CIC Operator supports our Innovation goals by running our cheese pilot plant. This includes efficiently operating all assigned pilot plant equipment needed for various projects.  Our operator is responsible for complete set up, teardown, and cleaning (CIP, COP, manual) of all equipment.   There is responsibility for sanitation of all others areas of pilot plant including tables, floors, hoops and other associated areas and equipment in order to carry out daily and weekly (master) sanitation.  Trouble shoot problems with equipment when needed.   Performs minor maintenance items (e.g. changes gaskets, seals, and cleaning items).  Assist with larger scale production trials as needed.


Essential Functions

  • Responsible for maintaining daily operations of the pilot plant equipment and maintain inventory of all supplies.
  • Collect milk using the CIC truck and trailer and remove slops (whey/perm/cream/etc.) on a weekly basis.
  • Utilize already existing Stand Operating Procedures (SOPs) to complete tasks.
  • Create and update SOPs and other standard work forms for the Cheese Innovation Center.
  • Carryout lab testing (milk scan, food scan, melt tests, etc.) as needed.
  • Work courteously and tactfully with R&D team and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Shipping and receiving samples to and from customers, universities, outside labs, or others as requested.
  • Take an active role in process improvement as it relates to the Cheese Innovation Center.
  • Utilize GPS processes, driving zero losses, and upholds the culture of Glanbia non-negotiables.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



  • Requires High School diploma and 3 years equipment operation and maintenance desired.
  • Comprehension of pneumatics, hydraulics, instrumentation, boilers, etc.
  • Requires skills in electrical, troubleshooting, and maintenance & repair of all plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements for a manufacturing operation.
  • Flexible in schedule to meet the needs of various projects including overtime and occasional travel to the Idaho production facilities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work with little to no supervision Must have knowledge of proper use of hand tools.
  • Knowledge of the proper use of all cleaning chemicals.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel
  • Must possess good report writing, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to operate (or learn to operate) all CIC pilot plant equipment.
  • Must be accurate in taking samples & performing tests.

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 65 pounds.
  • Involves moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.


Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to loud noise levels (i.e. manufacturing equipment).
  • May be exposed to humidity, intense heat, fumes and toxic chemicals, and disagreeable odors.
  • Must be able to work in hot conditions.

    • Minimal travel required limited within the local area.
