Job Summary

This position is responsible for developing initiatives for flavor business opportunities for Glanbia by driving the development, application, and manufacture of flavors in support of Glanbia’s global business growth objectives with a focus on beverages, sports nutrition products, protein powders and bars. The candidate should have expertise in the creation of a broad spectrum of flavors (including but not limited to flavor duplications/matching, new creations and modifications).


This person will play a key role in development of flavor business for Glanbia Nutritionals and will support the application scientists at Glanbia’s Twin Falls R&D center. They will need to be fast and able to think on their feet with a keen sense of commercial viability, organization skill and can-do attitude.  Knowledge of IP management and strategic development and marketing is a plus. They will be a key link between supporting existing business and developing future growth. Travel up to 20% of time.


Essential Functions


  • Create new and innovative flavor profiles to fit end application e.g.  Formulation of spray dried and plated flavors, flavor emulsions, and flavor extracts.
  • Integrate a thorough technical understanding of flavor raw materials (natural and artificial) into the design, quality, and stability of flavor systems.
  • Successfully transition from bench top prototypes to large scale commercialization in support of global growth initiatives. Understand technical and regulatory roadmaps, hurdles and key challenges.
  • Work together with the applications group to develop integrated product solutions. Identify, accelerate, execute fast to market flavor approaches to meet project goals and deliver winning taste profiles to consumers.
  • Enters and maintains accurate and thorough formulations and supporting documents.
  • Train and mentor other members of the team to formulate and manufacture flavors, evaluate other flavor manufactures
  • Understand the IP and regulatory frameworks and steer product development in the appropriate direction.
  • Support regions outside the US.
  • Work with cross functional teams including sales, purchasing, quality and production to transition flavors from R&D to production.
  • Manage and drive multiple projects at one time and meet deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



  • The ideal candidate must possess excellent interpersonal communication and relationship building skills and an open mind to manage cross-functional teams
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred Masters), preferably in a Chemistry or Food Science
  • Must be a member of the Society of Flavor Chemist
  • 1-5 years direct experience as a Flavor Chemist, preferably with applications within beverage and sweet.
  • Regarded as an Expert in flavor creation with a minimum of 8 years of progressive flavor development experience and an artistic flair for flavor creation and matching.
  • Ability to use and develop analytical methods such as GC/MS for flavor matching
  • Experience in IP management and strategy a definite plus.
  • Must have  project management capability.       
  • Must possess an analytical approach and be capable of detailed cost analyses with a strong business acumen
  • Must possess the creativity needed to develop opportunities within sector and possess a keen commercial acumen.
  • Must have demonstrably strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and possess team-based problem solving skills.
  • Must be results focused and oriented toward accomplishment of team goals.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 20%.
