Job Summary

Plans, coordinates, and directs testing program designed to ensure the company is in compliance to our lab standards.  In the absence of the Quality Director, Quality Manager and Laboratory Manager, the responsibility for Food Safety shall be assigned to the Quality Team Leader. 


Essential Functions

  • Track lab quality control performance in relation to key performance indicators
  • Review all data obtained during all quality control and quality control activities to ensure consistency with lab policies and procedures
  • Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during lab activities
  • Directs workers engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards
  • Review of daily lab analyst work for accuracy and completeness
  • Review lab proficiency testing to ensure standards are being met
  • Performs and delegates special test needs as assigned
  • Model Glanbia values, policies and procedures with demonstrating Leadership skills
  • Conduct audits to ensure employees are performing tasks according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Provide performance coaching to hourly employees
  • Manages payroll, vacation time, and sick leave for lab technicians
  • Demonstrate professionalism in verbal and written communication and in behavior
  • Manage laboratory technician schedule to encompass workload and customer requested testing
  • Maintain good laboratory practices and enforce laboratory safety
  • Maintain calibration of all analytical equipment in laboratories and in-process, and trouble shoot and repair equipment failures
  • Ensures both technical and safety training for all employees and reviews with existing techs per requirements
  • Grading and release of all products produced with assistance and overview of the Quality Assurance Manager
  • Utilizes GPS processes, driving zero losses and upholds the culture of Glanbia Nutritionals non-negotiables


Additional Functions

  • Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
  • Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Associates degree preferred/or a minimum of three years practical bench experience in produce development or ingredient application either in an industrial, university or research setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrable experience with laboratory techniques for the measurement of chemical components, microbiological parameters, and sensory attributes. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Practical experience in QA techniques, principles, and adherence to government regulations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiply projects simultaneously and delegate assignments to others.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • Involves moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.
  • Specific vision requirements for this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision,  ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to ___85+______ noise levels in which hearing protection will be needed.
  • May be exposed to humidity, intense heat, and areas with possible air contamination, fumes and toxic chemicals.
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock.

  • Minimal travel limited within the local area.
