Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician of Sterling Technology helps the Maintenance Supervisor with all maintenance within and outside the plant facility to include production equipment, building, grounds, vehicles, and heavy equipment; while maintaining and upholding the quality and standards of the organization.

Essential Functions
- Helps with all maintenance within and outside the plant facility to include production equipment, building, grounds, vehicles, and heavy equipment.
- Helps to oversee and coordinate maintenance work in the areas of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, and related systems (including boiler system).
- Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that all machines continue to run efficiently and their physical condition does not deteriorate.
- Help train and manage subcontractors and maintenance personnel (if any).
- Execute plant maintenance safely and in compliance with established standards, schedules, company policies, and procedures.
- Help plan and coordinate maintenance work and identify plant needs with Maintenance Supervisor and Plant Manager.
- Interact with other departments to identify maintenance areas needing attention and to ensure the proper functioning of all systems in the facility.
- Help oversee and coordinate with third-party vendors and service-providers, regarding the services, parts, equipment, and various work responsibilities they provide.
- Help coordinate renovations of existing facilities and the construction of new building/maintenance projects.
- Determine material and equipment and supplies to be used within the maintenance function and coordinate with the front office regarding purchasing requirements.
- Work with other managers to implement and promote Sterling Technology’s policies and goals.
- Once trained in, incumbent will be required to periodically take after hour and weekend call-ins. The incumbent will share these call-in responsibilities with the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Keep accurate records of maintenance work, along with the type and cost of maintenance or repair work needed and/or completed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May periodically be required to help the Maintenance Supervisor oversee contractors, and/or others working permanently or temporarily within the maintenance function or performing maintenance-related duties.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge in maintenance department functions including supplies, equipment, materials, and methods used in general and manufacturing-specific maintenance work.
- Ability to meet and deal tactfully and courteously with fellow employees and vendors/contractors.
- Incumbent must be a team player as well as an independent worker who has the capability to build productive relationships with internal and external personnel.
- Ability to install, inspect, repair, maintain, and oversee the electrical, plumbing, and other related systems of all plant departments/facilities.
- Ability to perform various clean-up and maintenance tasks as needed.
- Ability to update inventories and other supplies as needed.
- Ability to effectively help the Maintenance Supervisor manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet all specified deadlines.
- Ability to set priorities, identify and address problems and meet deadlines.
- Planning, organizational and scheduling skills are required.
- A combination of previous production and maintenance experience is preferred.
- Previous dairy and manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
- Must maintain the ability to pay attention to detail at all times.
- Possess a current, valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
Computer Skills
Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is desired. Should be familiar with basic computer functions such as keyboarding and internet use.
Physical Demands and Efforts
The physical demands described here are representative of those that could be expected of an employee in the performance of the essential functions of this job. The employee will be expected to alternate between sitting, standing, walking, and climbing for an entire shift. Must be capable of communicating with others both verbally and in writing; will be expected to use hands or fingers to manipulate equipment other than a keyboard. May occasionally be required to reach below and/or above waist level and below and/or above shoulders or head. Light to very heavy repetitive lifting (up to 50 pounds) may be required at times.
Vision Requirements
Vision requirements include close, distance, and midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus near and far frequently.
Work Environment
The work environment is moderately noisy and includes running machines, frequent interruptions, and moderate traffic. Incumbent may be exposed to wet, dry, humid, cold, and/or hazardous conditions at time. Potential exposure to chemicals may be a possibility. Incumbent will be required to complete Safety and GMP training at start of employment.
