Position Summary: The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean working environment for the entire facility at all times.
Essential Functions
- Sweeps, dusts, mops, scrubs, washes, vacuums, waxes, and polishes building floors, woodwork, walls, windows, furniture, some equipment and hardware
- Cleans and sanitizes all restroom areas, locker rooms, hallways and the breakroom; keeps restrooms supplied with paper towels, toilet paper, and soap
- Collects and disposes of trash and garbage; moves equipment and furniture such as tables and chairs when necessary. Inspects various areas within the facility for cleanliness and identifies the need for more frequent or non-routine cleaning.
- Performs sanitary inspections in designated areas for purposes of infection control
- Orders and distributes custodial supplies; maintains inventory
- Observes and reports safety hazards/violations, and the need for maintenance attention
- Establishes housekeeping standards; assists with policy planning when necessary
- Communicates with others both verbally and in writing

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures is required
- Knowledge of cleaning products used in the facility as well as knowledge of chemical product safety is required for MSDS purposes
- The ability to follow oral and written instructions is required
- Understanding and following proper procedures for disposing waste is required
- Basic knowledge of vacuum cleaners and various other custodial equipment is necessary

Physical Demands and Efforts
The physical demands described here are representative of those that could be expected of an employee in the performance of the essential functions of this job. Incumbent will be expected to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking for an entire shift. Will be expected to use hands or fingers to manipulate equipment other than a keyboard. May occasionally be required to reach below and/or above waist level and below and/or above shoulders or head. Light to medium lifting may be required at times.
Vision Requirements
Vision requirements include close, distance, and midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus near and far frequently.
Work Environment
The work environment varies due to the nature of this position. Incumbent can expect to work in cool, warm, humid, wet, dry and moderate temperatures. Depending on the department, the noise level may be quiet or noisy.
