The Opportunity 

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laboratory Manager to join our team. In this role, you will plan, coordinate, and direct laboratory activities to ensure quality control and assurance of our products. In the absence of the Director of Quality, the responsibility for Food Safety shall be assigned to the Quality Manager; in the absence of the Quality Manager, such duties shall then be assigned to the Laboratory Manager. This permanent position will report to the Quality Assurance Manager and duties include but are not limited to the following; 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish, direct, and monitor laboratory testing procedures and practices.
  • Ensure customer requirements are met, including investigating and addressing customer complaints.
  • Evaluate products and supervise the quality assurance laboratory.
  • Manage the QA budget for the laboratory and track plant performance against key performance indicators.
  • Review data from quality control and assurance activities to ensure consistency with company policies.
  • Direct inspection and testing activities to maintain continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
  • Maintain knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards.
  • Play an active role on quality management teams and design quality training programs for key personnel.
  • Prepare and present technical and program information to the management team.
  • Utilize GPS processes to drive zero losses and uphold company culture.
  • Comply with occupational safety and health standards and all applicable food safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field, with five to seven years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with laboratory techniques for measuring chemical components, microbiological parameters, and sensory attributes.
  • Practical experience in QA techniques, principles, and adherence to government regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Effective communication and project management skills.
  • Proficient in personal computer skills, including email, record keeping, database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics.
  • Ability to manage difficult customer situations and respond promptly to customer needs.
  • Practical bench experience in product development or ingredient application is desirable.
