The Opportunity 

This role is responsible for overseeing daily manufacturing activities, ensuring production targets are met, and maintaining compliance with food safety and quality standards. You’ll manage a team of supervisors and operators, drive process improvements using lean and TPM methodologies, and collaborate cross-functionally to optimize throughput, reduce downtime, and control costs

 

This position requires a 2/2/3 schedule. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
  • Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettle grievances to the Senior Production Manager or Plant Manager for action.
  • Utilizes GPS processes, driving zero losses and upholds the culture of Southwest Cheese non-negotiables.
  • Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health  Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
  • Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates. (Food Safety Modernization Act- FSMA, Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)

 

The Skills you will bring to the team

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or a minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to work a rotating 2/2/3 schedule (12-hour shifts, flexibility for nights).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Understanding of TPM and similar continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to define problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiply projects simultaneously and delegate assignments to others.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill

 

Physical Demands

  • Regularly involves talking or listening, standing and walking, and the use of hands and fingers.
  • Frequently involves sitting, and reaching with hands and arms
  • Occasionally involves crouching, stooping, kneeling and/or climbing or balancing

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of objects and materials.
  • Involves moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.
  • Should be able to identify and distinguish colors, see clearly at 20 inches or closer and 20 feet or more, observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, judge distances and spatial relationships, and adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus

 

Typical Environmental Conditions

  • May be exposed to loud noise levels (i.e. manufacturing equipment).
  • May be exposed to humidity, intense heat, and fumes and toxic chemicals.
  • May work in areas with mechanical moving parts, above ground with risk of fall, or areas with risk of electrical shock.

The opportunity will be based in Clovis, NM, our Southwest Cheese facility, one of the largest and most advanced cheese and whey protein manufacturing facilities in the world, processing over 5 billion pounds of milk annually in the heart of eastern New Mexico.
