The Opportunity 

 

The Commercial Director will play a key role in Glanbia Performance Nutrition (GPN) in delivering our ambition to be the UK’s leading Sports Nutrition, Weight Management and Healthy Lifestyle business. Specifically, the position has P&L responsibility for a UK business of c. $150m NSV, Yo

This role involves driving the strategic direction of the business and the growth plans for further UK expansion, in close partnership with the rest of the UK Leadership Team (Finance, HR, Customer Strategy & Operations, Supply chain & Marketing) as well as regional marketing and innovation.

As part of the UK Leadership team, the Commercial Director work effectively with peers and lead the trade & product agenda within the team

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the development and delivery of the UK’s short and long term sales strategies.
  • Take on Customer and Commercial P&L responsibility, driving revenue and margin while effectively manage costs and ROI KPIs with Finance support.
  • Drive the customer agenda, building strong and sustainable relationships with key customers focused on delivering shopper, channel and category centric solutions which accelerate customer engagement.
  • Recruit, retain and develop a high performing, capable and engaged senior commercial team and a strong talent pipeline which effectively supports strategy development and deployment and delivers business results.
  • Motivate, engage and inspire the Commercial team to deliver against the commercial priorities and towards a common vision and achievement of both the UK commercial strategy, and the overall UK strategy.
  • Works closely with and influence all functions and in particular Marketing, Innovation, Category/Insights and Supply to ensure the needs of shoppers, trade partners and customers, are reflected into functional strategic plans and business and channel targets are achieved.
  • Play a critical role in the UK leadership team, with accountability for shaping and implementing the UK strategy and leading the wider business to success.
  • Build relationships and buy-in with stakeholders to enable the delivery of the UK Commercial strategy.

 

The Skills you will bring to the team

 

  • Graduate calibre, with c.10 years plus experience in FMCG/consumer products with a strong sales and category background. Sports Nutrition/Nutrition Category experience would be an advantage.
  • Minimum 7 years P&L Management experience; as a Sales Director and/or in senior, scale National Account Controller roles. Minimum 5 years of leading large teams; proven people leadership capability through measurable team results, succession & promotions within the teams, engagement
  • results, etc. Proven ability to inspire and lead a commercial team/matrix organisation to deliver business results consistently.
  • Leadership experience to include membership of a leadership team and/ or leading a large-scale strategic initiative, requiring enterprise accountability and strategic thought leadership.
  • Experience in areas such as (but not exclusive to): Strategic Account Management, Customer Marketing, Category Leadership, SRM and Digital. Involvement in varied situations e.g. re-organisation, business turn-around, etc. is beneficial.
  • Significant and diverse commercial, category and customer experience and demonstrated ability to develop strong and impactful customer relationships and influence customers of all sizes.
  • Strong track record of developing and executing a customer-centric vision and strategies with the ability to inspire and lead a Commercial team/matrix organisation to deliver business results consistently.
  • Ability to navigate complex situations and challenge the status quo with a can do attitude.  Self-reliant, decisive and resilient and able to respond and adapt to a fast moving, swiftly changing environment.
  • Proven ability to leverage strategic agility and perspective to develop trend based strategies which translate into top line, margin, share and overall business results.
  • Commercially and financially astute with sound business judgement and an understanding of the commercial impact of one’s own decision making.
