Job Summary

Operates evaporator for continuous processing of whey, permeate and water.

Essential Functions

  • Efficiently operate assigned whey processing equipment
  • Take assigned in- processing samples
  • Monitor operation of equipment and make appropriate adjustments to produce top quality products
  • Trouble shoots problems with equipment when needed
  • Keep work area clean and uncluttered
  • Monitor multiple computer screens to maintain parameter control of two evaporators, silo and line CIP circuits, truck receiving and loading etc
  • Adjusts controllers to maintain proper flow and solids in the evaporators
  • Monitor and control ingredients addition
  • Fills silos to proper levels
  • Records hourly information from controllers regarding silo levels, pH levels, etc. to production logs
  • Performs CIP (cleaning in place) of evaporator, lines, silos, etc.
  • Performs minor maintenance items (e.g. changes gaskets, seals, and cleaning items)
  • Keeps assigned area, whey control room and work area clean
  • Perform Chart Recorder checks and USDA seal checks
  • Assist the training of other operators
  • Read through Standard Operating Procedures and help update them when possible
  • Take readings and fill out Evaporator log sheets
  • Take an active part in loss control
  • Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to the Occupational Safety and Health Act which are applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
  • Complies with all applicable food safety regulations and mandates (Safe Quality Foods, Food and Drug Admin, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance)
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Computer experience helpful
  • Must be mechanically inclined
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs consecutively
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with little supervision
  • Must be dependable and trustworthy
  • Must be able to work in hot conditions and go up & down stairs
  • Ability to operate (or learn to operate) dryer and associated equipment
  • Must be accurate in taking samples & performing tests
  • Must be certifiable on the Evaporators
  • Ability to operate (or learn to operate) necessary equipment
  • Excellent record required in safety, attendance, and punctuality
  • Ability to stand and walk the entire shift if needed
  • Ability to read and write instructions in English
  • Knowledge of the proper use of all cleaning chemicals
  • Must be able to work weekends, and overtime as required
