The Transportation Safety Specialist oversees and maintains safety, environmental, and DOT compliance programs to ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements. This role evaluates facilities and processes, conducts inspections, and drives corrective actions to promote a safe and compliant workplace.

 

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the site’s regulatory point person for safety, environmental, and DOT programs; communicate new or updated regulations to employees and leadership.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety, environmental, industrial hygiene, and DOT programs, including training, PPE standards, and engineering controls.
  • Maintain compliance records such as OSHA logs, site compliance calendars, permits, and audit documentation (including GRMS).
  • Conduct monthly safety inspections, lead root‑cause investigations, and manage incident reporting (injuries, environmental incidents, near misses) within the incident management system.
  • Prepare and submit required environmental reports (Tier II, Form R, SARA 312/313, CAA, CWA, RCRA, etc.) and ensure all permits remain current.
  • Oversee waste handling processes to meet federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Support engineering initiatives related to safety and participate in monthly safety committee activities.
  • Coordinate Occupational Health visits and workers’ compensation follow‑up.
  • Oversee driver fitness for duty, conduct annual ride‑alongs, and ensure Smith System training is completed on schedule.
  • Provide on‑call support for workplace incidents, injuries, or vehicle accidents.

 

What You Will Bring To the Team

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
  • At least 3 years of related experience
  • Ability to read instructions, write reports, and communicate effectively.
  • Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and delegate effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership and adherence to safety policies.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Must complete Glanbia’s Team Lead certification program.

 

Physical Demands & Requirements

  • Regular talking, listening, and use of hands and fingers.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and reaching.
  • Occasional tasting/smelling, stooping, crawling, kneeling, climbing, or balancing.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity for handling materials and equipment.
  • Light, non‑strenuous daily physical activity.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be provided as needed.

 

Environmental Conditions

  • Possible exposure to 85+ dB noise (hearing protection required).
  • Work may occur near moving mechanical parts, in low‑light areas, or at heights.
  • Potential exposure to air contaminants, chemicals, humidity, extreme non‑weather heat, and outdoor conditions.

 

Travel

Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land or air.
